Like I said I get the logic. The stats bear it out. It's counter-intuitive because it seems to make sense to have one of your best hitters up after the 1 and 2 hitters, who are usually high OBP guys.
It would be interesting to see it broken down by inning as well.
What a strange team, these 2024 Red Sox. The starting pitching has been vastly better than expected, elsewhere there are a ton of issues.
Personally I don't think this offense is going to get much better than it looks right now.
I think they see Rafaela as their long term CFer, so I can understand not using him for a short term fix at the SS position and possibly messing up his development. He also has 3 errors in the OF so it's not like he's been flawless out there.
Of course it is and of course they will.
And no one is saying practice isn't important.
Practice is important.
All the practice in the world won't make some guys good enough at the MLB level. (Do we think Bobby Dalbec isn't working at batting practice?)
Two simple statements that are both true and not that hard to keep in the head at the same time.
Yeah, it sucks. I think this franchise will turn it around but it's gonna take way too long. 2019 was a bad year in John Henry's head. He thought he could trade Betts and go Tampa Bay North and he would thereby prove he was the biggest genius in baseball. He was incredibly wrong.
Much of what goes on here is not about devotion to the team but a form of cathartic psychotherapy. Mostly for older guys with too much time on their hands.
