  1. Campbell was supposed to be one of our late inning mainstays. He wasn't supposed to s*** the bed two games in a row.
  2. What strategies would there be? It's designed to produce quick runs and it does. If you're the home team at least you know how many you have to score to stay tied or win.
  3. Hamilton's gaffe turned the game, right? When you have a motley crew patrolling the middle infield bad things seem to happen.
  4. Crazy that our starters all pitched decently but we gave up 23 runs in this series...
  5. Sure, but both teams get that runner in the 10th, so there's no advantage to either.
  6. Boy they really addressed that critical deficiency in the offseason.
  7. The guys in the Run Prevention Unit got a good laugh this morning when their computer models recommended that we not play Baltimore any more this year.
  8. I thought the Run Prevention Unit was a Breslow/Bailey thing.
  9. The fact we don't have a single good defensive infielder (after Story) really seems to be an issue!
  10. If we put our heads together we can come up with a beautifully reasoned list of things they won't do.
  11. And if lesser reliever like Campbell gets lit up, does it matter if it's the 9th or 10th? If it's the 9th you get to go home earlier, that's all...
  12. Damn, A Realistic Look at 2025 already...
  13. My post was directed toward the Elkmeister.
  14. Red Sox starters are averaging 5.26 innings a start. MLB average - 5.22 innings a start. So yeah, it must be Cora's bad management, nothing to do with the way the game is now.
  15. What blatant nonsense.
  16. I freely admit my mood has been vacillating about the team. But I think I'm entitled to that much, after back to back 78-84 seasons and being projected to be about the same this year. I predicted we would win 80 games, so my expectations have been low from the start. And that was before Story checked out for the year.
  17. Right, just like the "Always look on the bright side of life" song in Monty Python.
  18. Now, now, no negativity about our stellar lineup. Be happy! Devers must have the sore shoulder again. No biggie.
  19. I keep pointing out the recent season-ending injury to Story has a bearing on the mood and you keep dismissing it. Also, before this series started I said the 7-3 start meant jack, so I wasn't really waving the pom-poms.
  20. It was reasonable up until "Be happy".
  21. Some quick research indicates that you're right - the Tommy John epidemic started in 2014 and has been fairly steady since then. But that's a long way from your initial statement that injury is 'a risk inherent to every player ever'. Pitchers are much more susceptible to injury than position players over the last decade.
  22. I guess this requires some further investigation.
  23. Losing Story for the whole year was kind of a big deal. This team needed a lot to go right to have a chance. When you see the lineups we're putting out there, with Pablo Reyes hitting 6th or better, you know this is a team with serious issues. The starting pitching has been much better than expected, that's where the optimism has mainly come from.
  24. Maybe you missed this, but there are some new numbers showing pitchers are getting injured at an unprecedented and accelerating rate.
