  1. The house analogy is a bit more apt, I think.
  2. $156 mill. He sat out 2020 and was not paid at all that year. Per FanGraphs his value for the years 2016-2019 was about $85 mill. There have been much worse busts.
  3. It wouldn't be as much as of an issue if we weren't racking up all these sub-.500 seasons. Another one this year would make 7 out of the last 13.
  4. Personally I think technology has peaked and is now going downhill.
  5. You think Ref suddenly and miraculously turned it around against RHPs at age 33? Does that actually make sense?
  6. You have some unique takes for sure.
  7. Which they probably will. It was just kind of interesting that the certainty of trading Jansen was leaked out.
  8. Sure, that's exactly what I said and a valid apples to apples comparison!
  9. Looks like they're doing some "upgrades". You know how that goes sometimes.
  10. Sure, just like Babe Ruth was "just one player". Why so much commotion about the Red Sox losing Ruth, huh?
  11. I'll take Price's WAR over Yoshida's and Grissom's, thank you very much! Plus Price did come through big in the 2018 postseason. We might have had a problem without him, yes...
  12. Texas had already heavily invested in the 2023 team though. They showed what "full throttle" actually means...
  13. Didn't care for the 3 division titles and the ring?
  14. Ben was CBO for the Lester fiasco. It is a little hard to keep track of the timeline for our revolving door of CBOs.
  15. I read somewhere that the Red Sox have already as much as said they're trading Jansen no matter what. Makes sense with the Hendriks signing. Kenley should fetch something half decent.
  16. I get the philosophy. Give a guy like Cooper a full shot, if he doesn't capitalize, you move on.
  17. Yes. I don't even question him LOL Just messing around of course.
  18. It turns out that I'm an even bigger Cora fan than you are. I think Cora has certain principles that he adheres to when he's making out lineups and he sticks to them faithfully. He doesn't bury guys who are cold like Cooper. He's definitely not a "ride the hot hand" guy. It's up to Breslow to cut a guy like Cooper loose.
  19. At least in this case we can say we came out alright in the sense that we won a ring with Price. Jon of course won another ring with the Cubs.
  20. That 4 year/$70 million opening "offer" to Lester was a sign of things to come.
  21. I for one will be somewhat amused if they get put in the same "should we buy or should we sell" position this year. I agree that Breslow is more likely to be bold and sell whatever he can. It'll probably be the right thing to do, but it'll be another firestorm for the front office, after the full throttle, our mission is to compete ********.
  22. There was nothing wrong with the Price signing. He looked like a rock solid choice at the time. We won 3 division titles and a World Series in his first 3 seasons with us. What happened after that was basically the cost of doing business. IMHO.
  23. You sound suspiciously like a front office plant.
  24. In 1966, the last year before the ID season, they averaged about 10,000 a game, 8th out of 10 AL teams. 1967 famously revived the franchise.
  25. Which also explains some of the "nutty other teams" thing. Part of the reason more teams are spending more is because they're wealthier.
