  1. That's true, but I don't know how they were supposed to see this coming, either. The last couple of years he hasn't been that good or that durable. These are not easy calls to make.
  2. He's an ornery, stubborn prick, there can't be much doubt about it any more.
  3. It's the owners and front office that have been underachieving going back to 2019.* *Excluding Breslow who I am absolving completely at this point.
  4. Yeah, personally I think their record is self-explanatory. There is no mystery why they are in a death struggle with the .500 mark.
  5. Sam apparently thought lowering the payroll would have a positive impact on results.
  6. Red Sox 2024 record in first game of home stand: 0-5 5 runs scored 31 runs allowed Nothing like the magic of getting back to Fenway!
  7. Yes, he has really exposed himself over the last 5 years as an ass.
  8. I was talking about his defensive numbers for all 3 MLB part seasons, BTW. Every single number is negative.
  9. He's pro level.
  10. I assume Bailey and Varitek do the game planning. Not sure how much latitude the catchers have to make calls.
  11. mvp is just yanking chains.
  12. I don't think anyone is down on Breslow, really. Most Red Sox fans have come to realize where the real issues of recent years lie.
  13. Sure he does. He was putting in extra effort in the offseason in more ways than one. Just s***** luck.
  14. It is. But last year he had a BABIP of 344 and it still only resulted in a 659 OPS.
  15. I don't think anyone will dispute that Sale is still a fairly high injury risk. However, a) He was healthy at the end of 2023. He had TJ surgery which obviously accounts for a lot of the missed time. c) Two of his other injuries were fluky stuff-getting hit by a ball and falling off a bike. These are things that the Braves were obviously looking at.
  16. OK, let's go Old School on Yoshida: 15 HR 72 RBI Not great production for a DH who cost the team $105 million for 5 years.
  17. The lack of home runs and extra base hits is just ridiculous. How can you be a good MLB hitter if you can't hit home runs or doubles?
  18. What does Grissom actually do well, in an MLB context, is kind of the question.
  19. Merely citing objective statistics.
  20. It's almost like the same guys who scouted Grissom for us are the guys who scouted Yoshida. Seeing stuff that just isn't there. Mirages.
  21. Grissom's defensive numbers per FanGraphs are all in the red zone too, folks.
  22. They had motivation to lie in one case. Can you guess which one?
  23. His fWAR of -0.8 in 20 games extrapolates to -6.4 for 160 games. Pretty sure that would be a record.
  24. And the Braves said he's gonna be a star!
  25. Grissom's last 215 MLB PA's: HR 0 3B 1 2B 5
