  1. Zack Kelly vs. Chris Flexen Everything looks to be in place for another beautiful exhibition of baseball.
  2. It did, but we can also see it didn't really have to with a bit more spending and better moves. They made very conscious decisions to trade Betts, cut payroll and hire a CBO with no experience. The real cliff-bringers just might be the guys still here running the show.
  3. And let's face it, Giolito was pretty much a dumpster dive, albeit a more pricey one than usual. He had one of the worst stretches I've ever seen to finish 2023. Obviously they thought they could "fix him".
  4. Isn't this kind of leaving out that in the next full season, 2021, the Sox made it to the ALCS? Plus the 2022 and 2023 teams arguably had playoff shots with a few better moves.
  5. Nope, not buying the "only 93 wins". 93 is several more than a number of recent WS and pennant winners.
  6. They could both have been big factors. Kennedy said the payroll was going to be lower in 2024. Sale was part of the reduction. I don't think it's unreasonable to think the $10 mill tipped the balance toward trading him.
  7. And it seems like a virtual certainty that's where he'll want to go.
  8. Make it 4 as soon as they trade Pivetta.
  9. And that's why the Sale trade pisses me off. Because my suspicion is the $10 million off the payroll was a huge factor in it happening.
  10. Everybody wants him to do well, and he has done some very good things. But his MLB career K/BB of 93/12 is horrific. That kind of ratio generally spells doom.
  11. They fired their CBO after 2 78 win seasons, they talked big, they gave the new CBO a smaller budget to work with. Little wonder so many were uninterested in Breslow's job.
  12. Some are pointing at RedBird Capital as the real culprit in the Sox recent penny-pinching. RedBird bought 10% of FSG in 2021 when FSG needed a cash infusion because of COVID losses.
  13. O'Neill is banged up again. He's one of those guys always threatening to be on the IL. That was evident the last couple of seasons but we bit anyway, because he came cheap.
  14. Henry's ill-chosen words further highlight the stunning lack of PR savvy in the guys running this team now.
  15. Bodies of a lot of fans of other teams in those seats now. Fenway Experience.
  16. Ifs buts candy nuts. Not much we're doing looking like genius.
  17. C'mon man, Teoscar has an OPS+ of 134. I wouldn't have brought him up just because of the granny. It was admittedly an attention-getter. But the guy is having a pretty respectable career. And like you say, he's a wee bit more durable than the guy we got.
  18. If this season dissolves into a total shitsunami like it's threatening to, it's great that it'll all be captured for posterity by NetFlix!
  19. Teoscar and Imanaga are two players the Sox reportedly could have had on very reasonable terms and yet they elected not to meet the price. This is where this franchise is now. And it's pretty f***ing pathetic.
  20. Tyler's chronic difficulty staying on the field had a lot to do with him coming cheap, so he was kind of a perfect fit for the 2024 Sox, but not really in a good way.
  21. Neither looking great.
  22. Teoscar Hernandez might have been a better get for an RH bat than Tyler O'Neill. And the Sox reportedly had a clear shot at Teoscar, but ultimately cheaped out again.
  23. More irony is that Henry is obviously pissed about the "full throttle" thing becoming such a hot button, and then he goes and serves up "unrealistic expectations" as a new hot button.
  24. I'm afraid that with this interview Henry really clinched that while he's a brilliant man in some ways, he's a total dodo in others. This interview was a very deliberate thing done by e-mail, so he had every chance to think carefully about what he was saying and how it would be interpreted. He had an opportunity to say some things about how he could understand frustration with the recent results. Instead all he does is scold the fans and the media for being impatient and unrealistic. And yeah, it is pretty f***ing ironic for him to be scolding about impatience and unrealistic expectations after firing Dombrowski and Bloom, both of whom seemed to be doing essentially what they were paid to do. Now it looks like poor Breslow is left holding the bag for another *very disappointing* season.
