  1. I'm not panicking Denny, but our bullpen suddenly looks like a major problem with no clear fixes in sight. Breslow could go bold and trade for 1 or 2 legit relievers, but that would cost some prospects, maybe some really good ones. Breslow said he's determined to pick a lane. I'm just saying we can't rule out the sell lane just yet. If he has a cold-blooded, future-oriented philosophy, selling could still be the way to go.
  2. Jansen will bounce back. The real issues are Slaten and Martin being injured, Bernardino and Weissert pitching horribly etc. Our bullpen depth is gone.
  3. Can't really fault Bloom for Giolito...did you mix him up with Yoshida?
  4. Does anybody think selling might be still on the table? A horrible thought, but I'm not sure it can be ruled out yet.
  5. Man, bullpens can really fall apart overnight. Kelly and Booser are about the only two guys you would want to see pitch tonight. Jansen-blew it last night and was shaky in his previous inning Slaten-on IL and who knows when he returns Martin-on IL and who knows when he returns Bernardino-was great up until June but has been terrible since Winckowski-OK but not confidence-inspiring Weissert-just about dead and dusted Campbell-see you in 2025 Horn-disappeared? Anderson-mopup guy
  6. Maybe we should just confine this to the question of whether one bad loss can stop a team's momentum. I say no. You obviously think it can.
  7. Well, the Yankees had one of the most crushing and embarrassing losses imaginable in their previous game, and they had a nice relaxing 6-1 win last night.
  8. Would that be Tito Vogt?
  9. That was the first HR Bernardino gave up this year.
  10. Maybe so. Looks like Cora put a lot of faith in Bernardino in the L on L matchups.
  11. There's no such thing as momentum other than the way Earl Weaver described it.
  12. It's a sad day at Talksox when we can't find a good historical comp for a Flaherty trade. One could look at the Montgomery trade last year, though the waters are muddied a bit by the Rangers also getting Stratton.
  13. Over the Monster is really good. To tie it in with the Bill James thing, here's a piece with some pretty innovative ideas on how to cut down on the strikeouts and increase the number of balls in play. https://www.overthemonster.com/2024/7/17/24199496/mlb-needs-to-take-a-sledgehammer-to-its-strikeout-crisis-heres-a-few-ways-they-could-do-it
  14. Yeesh. His numbers against the Yankees are pretty good, and they've had considerably better pitching than us during his career.
  15. OK Mr. Groaner.
  16. I know. But you gotta like those numbers.
  17. A couple things that probably should have been mentioned about Vlad Jr.: Career vs. Yankees 83 GS .879 OPS 19 HR 63 RBI Career at Fenway 40 GS 1.054 OPS 10 HR 41 RBI
  18. That's what they were called when they mattered.
  19. This is the kind of tough talk John Henry really needs to hear.
  20. No worries, a bunch of us will be pissed when he gets traded elsewhere.
  21. Talksox is like the Oakland Raiders of baseball forums. We're the last resort, baby!
  22. Any evidence of that in the Red Sox starter numbers? Houck 8-6 W-L 2.54 ERA Crawford 6-7 3.04 Bello 10-5 5.32 Yeah, just maybe!
  23. ????? 3.13 ERA 3.17 FIP .98 WHIP 7.44 K/BB Doesn't seem malodorous to me.
