  1. How much do you surmise Bailey has to do with the pitching results? I realize it's all speculation but that's what we do here.
  2. I did not see 5 extensions coming, I must say. It has really raised my opinion of how the organization is conducting business now. Of course my attitude is probably being affected by the fact that the team is on a 32-16 run. 😀
  3. Financially speaking, there's no difference between extensions and FA contracts.
  4. moon, we've never seen a flurry of extensions to young players like this. Never. Not even close. Ownership is investing in the team's future in a big way. My DNA is feeling pretty good these days, personally.
  5. And Akin, a pretty good pitcher, served up a very fat pitch. And Rafaela put a great swing on it. This dude fascinates me as a hitter.
  6. Dumping Devers should not alter your view on the spending. They've been proven right that it was a move to help the team. I can't see being nervous about Henry these days when you look at the large and long investments in Crochet and Anthony on top of Bello, Rafaela and Campbell.
  7. Campbell and Yoshida are not valuable trade assets right now IMO. What does BTV say, I wonder.
  8. In 2024 Rafaela had a 2.8 bWAR in 152 games, which is above average but not bigly, with an OPS of .664. So his tipping point is somewhere around there, which is in line with your numbers.
  9. On the other hand, they have all contributed at times. And they're all making peanuts. If you buy into WAR at all, Hamilton is actually an above average player, even this year, with a bWAR of 0.9 in 161 PA. Last year it was 2.6 bWAR in 317 PA. Obviously the advanced metrics really like his defense and love his speed. He has some power, too.
  10. Of course that's a possibility. But the comparisons to JBJ may not have any relevance because we don't really know exactly what caused the demise of his hitting. His swing and plate approach were much different from Rafaela's. He had kind of a big loopy swing.
  11. And as you have pointed out over and over, when Rafaela was in the minors the team tried to alter his approach but it made him worse.
  12. Knowledgeable posters understand perfectly well that Rafaela has approach issues at the plate and that the team knows that too and that they are the ones who manage the players. Sox announcers saying "we gotta get him going" accomplishes nothing.
  13. Doesn't matter how much data or arguments we present, of course. Nothing will alter his opinion. We're doing this for ourselves, basically. 😄
  14. Your maligning of Rafaela shows that there are some things you simply don't grasp about major league baseball. Not even the fact that everyone disagrees with you is enough to persuade you.
  15. The Sox are 31-16 since July 1 with a +89 differential, while Rafaela has been slumping. You go on your gut feelings and ignore the most obvious facts.
  16. Yep, WAR is great for identifying whether a player's pluses outweigh the minuses. Just think of those Baltimore teams of the late 60s and 70s. Earl Weaver plugged Paul Blair and Mark Belanger into the lineup every damn day no matter how lousy they were hitting. And this was long before WAR of course. Weaver knew a bit about the game.
  17. It is, yes. But for guys starting out and having some struggles (like Campbell), the first 600 are often interrupted. I'm not a big fan of "one size fits all" when it comes to numbers like these.
  18. They can and they do. As Hugh said, the real problem with the Kluber signing was that it was the only signing for the rotation that year.
  19. He has a 3.7 bWAR. Fred does not understand major league baseball.
  20. Jeez man you must be desperate for things to worry about. Anthony does have accelerators in his contract that give him bumps for awards and honors, could add up to $100 mill. It was a brilliant deal for both sides.
