    moon, your statement that I quoted was about 40-50 GAMES. And you started asking about Yoshida's leash after 10-20 games and suggesting alternatives like CampbeIl. It might sound like I'm trying to gotcha you here, but that's not the intent. I respect your opinions and I know a lot of thought goes into them, but the quick trigger finger on Yoshida has me genuinely confused .

    But he OPSd .800 against righties over the past two years, so that doesn't really make much sense.

    All I'm saying is you said "I've never been one to judge a player on just his last 40-50 games or so", but it didn't seem to apply to Yoshida's struggles getting going with the bat. And I'm not blaming you for giving up on Yoshida, I just have trouble reconciling it with that statement.

    Maybe so. No doubt the numbers require some digging into.

    The Sox are 6th in runs per game but they're 11th in OPS+, which is the only readily available offensive stat that's adjusted for the park. I think it's definitely fair to say we're probably the 11th best offense and not the 6th best offense.

    Plenty of teams have substantial differences between run differential and record. It's mostly randomness.

    I really don't need this "what's your point?" crap and the rest of the snark you've been dispensing on this thread. This should be a harmless discussion about the Sox lineup issues and for some reason you're getting worked into a lather about it. Lighten up.

    So he has started against a righty about every 30 games. I assume those were because of injuries to other players.

    Right, but why did you include him in your list of guys we're seeing too much of? He kills lefties and normally only starts against lefties. So seeing him in the lineup is normally a good thing.

    That makes sense but deadline deals are a little different because your situation and your needs may be much more clarified. Dombrowski's 2018 deadline was just about perfect. He got 3 useful pieces, 2 of them extremely useful, and didn't give up a lot.

    Of course, that applies to just about...everyone. The current system is wonky but at least there's an incentive to get that first round bye. I can't see any system involving more than 8 teams that won't be wonky in some way.

    There's no playoff format that's going to please everyone. Once they expanded beyond 8 teams it was bound to be tricked up in some way, and you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

    We have 2 titles since then, that's all that really matters. And it was kind of nice that the Cubs finally got one too.

    I just noticed a very odd scheduling quirk. The Red Sox and Yankees play 4 series this year. All 4 times, the Yankees play the day before and the Sox are off.

    I don't think anyone saw Pivetta making the quantum leap he has this year at age 32. His highest bWAR was 2.5 before this year, when it's 5.3.

    Not sure that's fair to Refsnyder where he's probably one of the best hitters in baseball against lefties. Are there any teams in baseball that don't put at least 2 crappy hitters in the lineup most games?

    Detroit has a huge lead in the division, so that's a bit in our favor if it comes down to those games.
