  1. Baseball offseasons seem to have become excruciatingly slow-paced, especially compared to other sports. I'm glad I was kind of checked out of it for a month or two. I didn't miss much in the way of action. Breslow seems to have done a workmanlike job with the trades. It'll be disappointing if they don't sign Bregman or make some sort of comparable acquisition.
  2. It doesn't get much attention from baseball writers, either. Everyone is into the tax numbers now. The team accountants are probably the people most interested in cash flow numbers.
  3. Bailey seems to be a pretty good pitching coach overall. He gets one more shot to improve Hicks and the DFA would be lurking behind that.
  4. Just look at how last season ended - Anthony on the IL and Abreu just coming off it. We would have been in rough shape without Duran.
  5. Do we have to keep bringing up those terrible signings of yesteryear? 😉
  6. Yes please, get it done. Would make me feel much better about the offseason and the commitment from ownership.
  7. And Duran, Rafaela and Abreu combined for 1 hit. It was a feeble offensive effort in general.
  8. Maybe. Might depend on syntax. It was just a dumb joke.
  9. He's a #2 over his career...only concern is he's getting on a little. Of course what we call a #2 some guys call a #3 or even a 4...expectations tend to exceed reality.
  10. Yeah, I think Kluber was the worst one-year contract in Red Sox history. But a lot of that was Bloom having no Plan B for Kluber flaming out like he did. Just bad work by Bloom all around. Of course he probably had a tight budget so some of it is on Henry too!
  11. Or is it prime peak? 😉
  12. From Peter Gent's North Dallas Forty: "I love Texas, but she drives her people crazy. I've wondered whether it's the heat, or the money, or maybe both."
  13. Last year's deal with Bregman wasn't really a one-year deal. It was one of those new-fangled "creative" deals that guaranteed him 3 years and $120 million but allowed him to split after one. It was much better than a one-year deal from his perspective.
  14. I have hopes for Breslow, I'll leave it at that. I think I'm more disillusioned with ownership than anything. It's not like Henry isn't spending at all, but it's different than it was before. #22 in payroll as a % of revenue is pretty darn low. They're not capitalizing on their financial might. And the results are what they are, under Bloom and Breslow they've made the playoffs twice in 6 years. Or maybe I'm spoiled by 2004-2018.
  15. Resign/re-sign - one of the weirdest words in the English language.
  16. Masa has been more a negative than a plus, especially with the health issues, plus Cora has been sitting him against a lot of lefties.
  17. We're just used to getting let down a lot the last few years, offseasons and deadlines alike.
  18. July 31 is for final pieces in the puzzle.
  19. Hard to say what's going to happen. We were expecting Duran or Abreu to be traded last offseason and it didn't happen, and it hasn't happened yet this offseason. Maybe they're just not getting enticing offers.
  20. My concern is it would hurt the offense and that's an area we need improvement in. I would prefer to trade Abreu if we're trading an outfielder. Not that my preferences count for much LOL
  21. It's just that Duran has been our best and most durable player the last 2 years. Trading surplus doesn't usually mean trading your best player.
