I'm sure they'd love to pick him up for the rest of this year, but the $33 million for the next two years doesn't look so good right now. Maybe if the Sox ate $10 million of it.
The Red Sox are now 29-48 in Salty's last 77 starts going back to September. Seriously. We're 20-12 in Shoppach's starts this year. Some luck factors involved obviously, but still, that is pretty unf***ingbelievable.
Agree with both of you 100%. A one game play-in is a horrible piece of gimmickry. Selig is showing his true colors on this one. Anything to wring a few extra bucks out of the suckers, and screw the integrity of the game.
Not sure if that holds up to analysis, jung. Beckett had poor run support last year and so far this year, but from 2006 to 2010 his run support was consistent with the average run support for the team. I think it's mostly a random stat.
The Sox are now 13-22 in Beckett and Lester starts, 35-24 in other games. Our biggest problem has now been clearly isolated. It's Beckett and Lester. Somehow we're going to have to replace at least one of them in the rotation.
Lefty starter for Chisox - I would expect to see Ross higher than 6th. I agree about Shoppach instead of Salty. Valentine usually goes with Shopp against a lefty starter.
Cody Ross's updated 2012 numbers vs. LH pitchers:
78 PA
67 AB
328/410/836 - 1.246 OPS
9 HR
24 RBI
Projected to 600 PA's he would have 69 HR and 185 RBI
