  1. Melon Ball-what a disaster. Trade him back to the NL, he'll probably do OK there.
  2. That's good news on Iglesias. Ciriaco seems like a good utility guy.
  3. The thing about Pedroia is, when he made the comments about 'that's not how we do things here', Cherington should have talked to him and asked him to apologize, but it didn't happen. That's mismanagement, an inability to put out fires. Pedroia does have that chip-on-the-shoulder attitude but no one can question his day-in day-out effort. I still look at him as a good guy to have on a team.
  4. What about Francona's own comments about losing control of the team last year?
  5. There's a whole bag of tricks in the story, because it says that some players boycotted the meeting. The impression is that there are multiple rifts, one between players and Valentine, one between players and players.
  6. This just in: Ben Cherington has confirmed that another team meeting has been scheduled, this one for the players to choose a new manager for next year.
  7. We're not out of it yet. Just a couple more weeks of floundering around and we will be.
  8. They are striving to make this season one continuous fustercluck from start to finish. They're now in the home stretch and I think they can pull it off.
  9. Finding any plan or logic in this FO's personnel moves is a challenge indeed. :dunno:
  10. 4 scoreless innings and a save for D-Lowe in his Yankee debut vs. the Rangers. What else would you expect? (The same D-Lowe who said he'd love to return to the Red Sox before the Yankees moved on him.)
  11. The Red Sox are very fortunate to be only 5.5 games out of a WC spot at this point. It's indicative of a high degree of parity in the league this year. That's what's keeping them on life support. So no, we're not dead yet. And if Josh Beckett could turn things around... Yeah, that did feel a little ridiculous typing that last sentence.
  12. Pedro's one of the best pitchers in history. Is that what you have to be to be an ace? That's why I have a problem with the term itself. There's no actual objective definition of what it means.
  13. We all seem to hate Lackey but his teammates have been stepping up to say what a great guy and great teammate he is. :dunno:
  14. Iglesias is 10 for his last 22 with 3 doubles.
  15. My daughter is a huge Lakers fan. She is ecstatic.
  16. LOL no, Clay beat the machine tonight. 104 pitches, that is a beautiful number.
  17. Oh man, ace is such an ill-defined term but people love to use it. I voted maybe. He has been studly the last couple of months.
  18. Better than losin', as us 2012 Sox fans like to say.
  19. Ross is a strong guy. That was a Manny-esque homer. Low inside curve taken 400+ feet to centre.
  20. Only 53 pitches through 5 for Buchholz. Are any of the other starters watching this? Or are they already distracted by thoughts of their postgame brewskies.
  21. That's right! Aviles manufactures another run.
  22. Alright, Aviles the OBP machine does it again.
