  1. My own feeling is that 2012 isn't even worth analyzing.
  2. Some people like to go through each individual transaction and assign it a grade and leave it at that. But it doesn't really tell the story. For example, has Ben done a good job or a bad job with the bullpen this year? The truth is, it's still too early to say. Everyone agrees the Uehara signing was a fantastic move, one of the best moves any team made this offseason. Breslow was also a good acquisition. But Ben has also had colossal failures with Melancon, Bailey and Hanrahan. And Thornton doesn't look much better at this point. Overall the pen looks like it go either way down the stretch. The story is yet to be written.
  3. I would give him an incomplete for 2012. I decline to answer the 'If the season ended today' question. It's a pure hypothetical.
  4. My point of view is pretty close. The team's record is ultimately all that matters and is the primary measurement of a GM's performance .
  5. The numbers are not on your side.
  6. Who cares? Well, I respect your indifference. But analyzing what the GM's do is one of the favorite topics on baseball forums.
  7. There's no mention of the option on Baseball-Ref, but it says there he's not a free agent until 2015, and he's arbitration-eligible for 2014.
  8. I hear you. This thread is purely for shooting the breeze purposes.
  9. No, don't get me wrong, you're not crazy for liking Stanton a lot. I think we all know he's an offensive stud. It's a question of how much is too much to give up. And you know that Miami would want some of our top pitching prospects in the deal.
  10. The big question for me is whether the Sox see Bogaerts as a shortstop or a third baseman. If it's third base, then you have to consider re-signing Drew.
  11. So what if he required Bradley, Cecchini, Owens and Ranaudo? No thanks. I agree with what SCM said.
  12. Oh I know what you're saying. But on a night like this, what the hell else is Farrell supposed to do. You have to nail down a game like this. And let's face it, if he did something other than use Tazawa for 2 innings, our chances for winning this game would have dipped significantly.
  13. Tazawa + Uehara = f***ing awesome.
  14. Just checked the game logs for Tazawa. It's not nearly as bad as you might think. Tonight was his 6th appearance in the last 2 weeks. That covers 8.2 innings. But the big thing is, thanks to his efficiency, he's only thrown 84 pitches over those 8.2 innings.
  15. Man, some nasty high pitch counts on both sides the last 2 games.
  16. You're right, it wasn't a good choice of words. I just meant to question the suggestion that WMB hitting under .200 for 53 games means that he shouldn't be thought of as a legit major league hitter. A lot of legit hitters have had bad streaks that long. His 2012 numbers were certainly legit.
  17. Well, you said he wasn't legitimate because he's hitting under .200.
  18. So because he hit under .200 for 53 games he's done?
  19. Please. It's not a media creation. The NYY fans have had mixed feelings about him at the best of times. They have booed the crap out of him at times he was floundering. Even Girardi said it was 50/50 boos and cheers last night.
  20. It's a conundrum. Chad Finn is one of the most level-headed of the Boston sportswriters, and he has been pleading with them to bring up Bogaerts. Surely we're down to the final days of Snyder...as in 1, 2 or 3 more days.
  21. The really strange thing is that they didn't even start Snyder against the lefty Chen.
  22. Thank God the Rays have a big problem area there.
  23. Relievers get charged with blown saves based on allowing inherited runners to score, even if they don't get charged with the runs.
  24. It's OK man. He's hastening his own absence.
