  1. Your numbers are indeed correct.
  2. Patience with the kids now.
  3. Drew will get signed by somebody, even if it's not until after the draft in June, when there will be no draft pick given up to sign him.
  4. Probably not much chance of sticking, but it's interesting they kept him up longer than Brentz. We could see him this year, that's for sure.
  5. I'm hfxsoxnut on BDC. I was hfxbob on Sawxheads. So I think you know me pretty well.
  6. He's a 28-year old veteran of the minors. .794 OPS in 3 seasons of AAA. He doubled and homered yesterday, but off Erik Bedard and a Santiago Garrido.
  7. I imagine Girardi will do some tinkering with the lineup in the early going depending on results. I think Ellsbury is your opening day leadoff hitter though.
  8. I think a certain amount of lack of focus and complacency is okay at this point. It's up to Farrell to get them back into focus in the next 3 weeks. I think he's quite capable of doing that.
  9. Lester, Lackey, Buchholz and Peavy have pitched a combined total of 1 inning in spring games so far.
  10. Grady Sizemore. I'm starting to get a good feeling that he's going be a nice surprise and a contributor for us this year.
  11. Josh Beckett. I think Beckett might have a surprisingly good bounceback season. And yes, I'm basing that solely on the reports of his first spring outing. He seems to think he's healthy again.
  12. I'm not much into those detailed predictions of what's going to happen in the upcoming season with final standings and playoff results. But I thought it might be fun to just toss out some random predictions of what individual players might do. First up: Jacoby Ellsbury. I have a feeling Ellsbury is going to have a big year. Not 2011 big, but a little better than 2013. I think he will be jacked to show the Yankee fans his stuff. He might need to be careful, in fact, that he doesn't get too jacked and hurt himself trying to do too much. So there you have it - just a random hunch, totally unsupported by any metrics whatsoever.
  13. Speaking only for myself, some of it is probably wishful thinking. But Sabathia's innings load has been huge. 2,900 major league innings including postseason.
  14. Not quite. We're not TB. Just listen to what Lucchino says. The Red Sox don't like handing out megadeals to FA's but they know it has to be done sometimes. They will take a 'balanced approach', which only makes sense when you're a wealthy team. Lester is a good bet. A big strong lefty who has succeeded in the AL East and just took us to a World Series. Guys like him don't grow on trees. The prospects are just that.
  15. Would you stop with the crying poor for the Red Sox? Our payroll this year will be right at the luxury tax threshold, the same as it has been for several years. We're a wealthy team.
  16. Get serious. Burnett obviously benefitted hugely from moving to the NL. His career ERA in the AL is 4.39. His ERA with the Yankees was 4.79. 'The past 2 seasons' is just one cherry-picked parameter.
  17. You and I are in complete agreement on this issue, but things have really gotten insane when we can refer to 17 million a year for pitching as peanuts.
  18. You're pulling 17 million out of a hat. As Palodios said, Masterson is looking for 20 million. You may have missed it when Lester said he also didn't want to 'set back the market'. That was a sign that he isn't giving any Pedey-style bargain.
  19. I'm not talking about what he's worth, it's what he can get.
  20. Beckett and Lackey are yesteryear's prices. Tanaka carries big risk for obvious reasons.
  21. Needless to say one potential suitor for Lester next offseason would be the NYY. I don't think they'd even blink at giving him $150 million +.
  22. Felix's extension was 7 years, $175 million = $25 million AAV
  23. Well, it's a good thing these spring games don't mean anything, because so far we are giving up a shitload of runs every single game.
  24. Disagree. Pedey's discount was unusual, and Lester shouldn't be expected to follow suit or risk being called a greedy putz. If Lester has a big year and goes to free agency he should be able to command at least $150 million. So $100 or $110 million guaranteed is still a considerable discount, IMO anyway.
