  1. The term Fellowship of the Miserable, BTW, was coined by Rick Pitino when he was coach of the Celtics.
  2. That's a good point too. You need a CPA to figure some of this stuff out.
  3. Seems like a safe bet that Scherzer would have taken 7/$190 over 14/$210.
  4. I agree, this place threatens at times to become exactly like that. It's up to everybody to make sure it doesn't.
  5. Red Sox are reportedly preparing to make a strong offer for Zimmermann. Red Sox sign Dana Eveland to minor league deal. Amaro doesn't expect to trade Hamels.
  6. At Sawxheads I had an intimate look at the one thing that can turn a forum into hell. It's when the posters align into two clearly defined parties - the positives and the negatives, or, as seen by the other side, the Front Office Ballwashers and the Fellowship of the Miserable - and it becomes an all-out war of partisan politics and personal attacks.
  7. Last offseason Dombrowski traded Fister for Ray, Krol, and Lombardozzi. Fister was 8th in Cy Young voting. Maybe Dombrowski is just f***ing up.
  8. His big ticket boys get paid, that's for sure. It's his small ticket boys that have been losers, arguably - Varitek, S Drew & Morales.
  9. We'll find out a lot about Bradley this year. Surely last year was a humbling experience.
  10. Looks like Washington will be close to the luxury tax threshold if they sign Scherzer. Back loading wouldn't help that.
  11. The Sox normally settle before it goes to arbitration. I'd expect Nava to end up with 1.9 million or thereabouts.
  12. Wouldn't that also take Kershaw out of the ace category?
  13. This is about Cliff Lee's vesting option for 2016. From what I can tell, Lee is guaranteed the $12.5 million buyout even if the option doesn't vest.
  14. And yet the 2010 team still won 89 games with a lot of injuries. It kind of shows how high the fans expectations were then, that 89 wins was such a disappointment. Now we're softened up a bit after watching 69 win and 71 win teams.
  15. My point is that it's very possible we had to trade Rizzo to get A-Gon. If that's the case, it's a defensible move, and there's no reason to lament it.
  16. Hoyer was the Padres GM when the trade was made. It's entirely possible that he thought more highly of Rizzo than he did of Lars when the trade was made. Unless anyone has some quotes this is all just speculation.
  17. Lars was Baseball America #87 prospect before 2010 season. Rizzo was Baseball America #75 prospect before 2011 season.
  18. Do we know that San Diego would have taken Lars instead of Rizzo?
  19. Was 2013 a bridge year? Epstein used the term bridge year for 2010. Has any member of the Sox FO used the term since that year?
  20. That sounds right, but I'm finding it hard to think of any recent teams that made it to the playoffs with that kind of profile.
  21. LOL Epstein had no idea what he was unleashing that fateful day when he introduced the word 'bridge' to a maniacal fandom.
  22. Personally I'd prefer Scherzer over Price, but solely on intangibles. Price looked bad in the incident with Papi.
  23. You're right, of course. Generally speaking, the more teams make the playoffs, the less important it is to win the regular season. Bud Selig 'sort of' addressed this with the new Wild Card structure, but the real inequities are with the large number of divisions. Football is even worse, of course, with Carolina making it to the tournament with a 7-8-1 record.
  24. And yet last year, the teams with the best regular season records went out early and two Wild Card teams ended up in the World Series. Baseball is a game that likes to confuse and confound us. We're always looking for the magic formula and we never find it.
  25. Thanks yeszir.
