  1. There are a lot of things that could go wrong with that team too.
  2. Jacko was trying to tell us that Ramirez had something to do with the Dodgers exiting the playoffs early two years in a row. It's horseshit. Ramirez put up great numbers and Kershaw s*** the bed. Those are the facts.
  3. It's now rumored the Yankees are close to making an offer for Scherzer - 7 years, 160 million+.
  4. I think the main purpose of the right/left thing is to prevent the other team from being able to have a lefty reliever face two lefty hitters in a row. That can be big late in the game.
  5. Pretty hard to with only two lefty bats.
  6. Mibelt Rodriguez ‏@MibeltRodriguez 45s45 seconds ago Source: The Detroit Tigers has offered SP Rick Porcello to Boston Red Sox in exchange for Yoenis Cespedes. #Redsox #MLB #Tigers
  7. Betts Pedroia Ortiz Hanley Panda Napoli Bogaerts/Castillo - order based on performance Vasquez
  8. The funniest part for me is trying to tie Ramirez to the Dodgers' early postseason exits when he put up a fairly respectable 356/453/578 slash line in those games.
  9. Kershaw has been the major postseason f***up for the Dodgers.
  10. Ballplayers on Twitter, how could that be a bad idea?
  11. Absolutely, his price tag, which is projected at $1.9 million this year, is a big part of the equation. They can't be spending big bucks at every position. You need some cheaper pieces.
  12. I don't think Nava gets traded for the simple reason that we are very short on LH bats.
  13. I think the Sox are actively trying to trade Cespedes.
  14. So who would you have preferred they acquire for third base?
  15. Dreams are what the offseason is for.
  16. Wild card #1 is Victorino. This guy could get traded, or he could have a 5-6 WAR season, or he could tweak something early and say bye-bye until 2016.
  17. As I said, I'm not a stats expert, so I don't know if a sample size of 13 years is large enough to identify an aberration. The word aberration is being tossed around here without too much concern for its actual technical meaning. I'm not even sure why it even matters that we determine whether 2012-2014 or 2013 are 'the aberration'. All that aside, so as not to duck your question, in my opinion, yes, the two division titles and the two last place finishes would meet the very informal definition of aberration I think is being used here.
  18. I'm not a statistics expert, but I know enough to know that you need a bigger sample than 3 to identify an aberration.
  19. I say let's play best 3 out of 5. Cherington & Co. need to win 2015 and 2016 to pull it out.
  20. I'm predicting that Nava will get plenty of AB's this year. I'm assuming we trade Cespedes. That leaves us with an OF configuration like this: LF Ramirez CF Castillo RF Betts ? Victorino ? Nava How the pieces fit will be interesting. But there are a pile of question marks with inexperience (Castillo, Betts) and health (Ramirez, Victorino).
  21. On his defence, I'm going by Baseball-Reference and FanGraphs.
  22. The 2013 offence did pretty well with Nava in the LF platoon. 2/3 of pitchers are right handed and Nava has a career OBP of .385 against them, which is one of the best in baseball over the last few years.
  23. Nava has a career OPS of .760. That would probably put him in the upper 30-40% among starting outfielders, and I would guess in the top 10% among 4th outfielders. And his defence improved considerably in 2014 according to the ratings.
  24. For me the why not is that it could mean a significant downgrade at 1B. We have depth but nobody special at that position.
  25. But Betts may not need any more preparation, and it's pretty clear we're going all in on 2015.
