    There's also a vesting option for 2017 which kicks in at $25 million unless he has a left shoulder injury in 2016. That would make it a 9 year deal.

    Ahh, fiddlesticks! I knew you were going to crush us with the Edgar numbers. The more I look at it, the more of an injustice it seems that Edgar isn't in the HOF. Are there PED suspicions with Edgar?

    Ortiz and Martinez have similar averages, but Ortiz's counting numbers are vastly better. And I have to disagree that Martinez was a 'much better player'.

    None that I've heard. I'm just saying, IMO, Henry and Lucchino, as good businessmen, know that in this market you can't keep putting s*** on the field and making money at it. So they will be looking to improve the team. Unless/until they get tired of it, and if that happens, I think they'd be ready to sell.

    I'm only an outside observer, but Girardi seems like he must be doing a pretty good job to me.

    Peavy will be traded. Gomes must be traded too, even if it's for balls, bats etc.

    I have a feeling the Sox are serious about Hamels. I'm not saying I like it, but I can see the logic there.

    If Gammons's report is accurate that the Sox had a chance to ink Lester for $105 million, then I'd say they definitely f***ed up royally.

    As far as spending is concerned, the 2014 payroll is just as high as the 2013 payroll, and it's still one of the top 3 or 4 in baseball, lagging behind only the Yanks and Dodgers, really. The spending was there for 2014...the return on spending was not.

    Well, in theory at least, moving him now could bring a bigger return because the acquiring team gets him for at least one full season plus two end-seasons. Plus a bigger window to sign him to an extension.

    Yeah, he probably only needs to average a WAR of 3 or so to be worth that contract.

    Who knows...I thought Lance Berkman was going to RAKE when the Yankees got him in 2010. Instead he had 1 HR and 9 RBI in 37 games.

    What about Craig, sk? You look at his 162 game averages, he's got an .807 OPS, 20 HR, 101 RBI. But he declined and then fell off completely this year. Just a terrible year or done?
