  1. He really is the gift that keeps on giving.
  2. My guess would be Scherzer to the Yankees.
  3. You're not getting under my skin at all, trust me. It's called disagreeing. We freed up a ton of money with that deal, and we won a World Series with guys that were signed with some of the money. That's a pretty big positive right there that you seem to be completely dismissing. Most Sox fans feel the AGon trade was a huge benefit for the team. Your position is in the minority.
  4. Yes, I know exactly what you can do, believe me LOL. But 'in the end, they didn't trade an unproven prospect for proven talent'? You can do a lot better than that.
  5. I thought you were an advocate of trading unproven prospects for proven talent.
  6. Your deal proposal is a reasonable one. You could look at the actual deal as 12 million for Year 1 and 6 million for Year 2.
  7. Oh well, we also got a major addition by subtraction on Crawford & Beckett.
  8. Let's compare Bogaerts's rookie season with Dwight Evans's 1973 rookie season. Dewey also struggled out of the gate. He was better than Bogaerts but not by a big margin. Bogaerts PA 594 240/297/362 660 OPS 85 OPS+ 12 HR 46 RBI For Fred, numbers with RISP PA 143 153/211/218 Evans PA 328 223/320/383 703 OPS 93 OPS+ 10 HR 32 RBI Numbers with RISP PA 106 184/305/287
  9. If a $9 million AAV player fails it's not great but it's not going to kill you either.
  10. But some of the worst flak toward A-Gon has been about his attitude. He has taken a pounding for the 'God's will' stuff. People used that to give him heat about 2011 even though he had a great month that September. I'm just throwing s*** out there for argument's sake.
  11. Stanton could be the same type of player for all we know - a great compiler of stats who doesn't thrive in the spotlight of Boston. To acquire him we'd have to package off some of our best prospects, and to keep him long term we'd have to give him close to 300 million. Not that I wouldn't love to have him, but the risk would be out of this world, especially when you factor in the possibility that he might be an 'A-Gon' type personality.
  12. I don't know, I think he's getting a bit of a bad rap here. He was a rock solid producer for the Dodgers this year. Kershaw was the guy who really let them down in the playoff series.
  13. "The moment you close your mind to the possibility of pleasant surprises, you are dead in spirit."
  14. You have a unique perspective, Fred.
  15. Tied for first this century still sounds good though.
  16. Next they will probably sign Lester.
  17. No politics talk on baseball threads, please, folks. It's always guaranteed to turn things uncivil in a hurry.
  18. That kind of says a lot about the game of baseball, doesn't it? It's a funky game alright.
  19. Love it.
  20. Price is not FA until 2016, right?
  21. It's a very unfortunate and ironic nickname. It must be in his head now. 'Hmmm...I'm called Big Game but I keep sucking in the postseason...hmmm.'
  22. Chili Davis has been hired as Red Sox new hitting coach per WEEI.
  23. Yes. It continues to tantalize the Red Sox too. I don't think we can afford to trade an experienced starter right now. We're not exactly operating with a surplus.
  24. a) Bradley would certainly get much more playing time than Herb Washington did. Designated Hitter David Ortiz might get in the Hall of Fame. c) I'm just throwing s*** out there.
  25. Bradley would be the perfect late inning defensive specialist. He doesn't enter the game unless you have a late lead. It could work pretty well.
