It's not $30 million a year. It's either $155 million for 6 years = $25.83 million average, or $170 million for 7 years if the option vests = $24.29 million average.

I can see the Reds dealing a pitcher, sure. I just don't think they deal Cueto before the 2015 trade deadline unless it's a premium package coming back. The All-Star Game is in Cincy this year too.

Still doesn't make sense. You're cutting your payroll, so you trade away your ace, but you get back a guy who will be gone the next year unless you pay him a bundle.

It would certainly make sense for us. I'm trying to see how it would make sense for them to acquire a guy with one year of control who is clearly looking for the big payday after 2015.

I don't understand why the Reds would trade Cueto for Cespedes, who is a free agent after 2015 too.

Greinke has an opt-out after 2015. The Tigers have said he's their #1 priority. Don't overlook the Giants. Too many things would have to go right.

I'm not at all convinced they'll pay what it takes to get Shields. A few teams will be in on him too. His price will exceed any valuation they place on him.
