His innings are pretty much in line with what they were in 2013 and 2014. But he does seem to be worn down and should probably be DL'd or shut down for the year.

I would say a secondary reason for people being OK was that they thought JBJ was ready to step in.

The truth is that nobody wins on the big free agent deals except the players. Only a small % of these deals come close to value for the teams. The Yankees made that huge splash before 2009 with CC, Tex and Burnett. They got a championship out of it so maybe it was worth it. But they ended up getting burned on those deals eventually which is what almost always happens. The Sox approach has been a disaster the last two years. There's no easy road to success even for big money teams.

That sucks. On the positive side, the Yankees lost and the Jays are winning.

Porcello's extension doesn't start until next year, so the verdict is still out on that money.

How the hell am I twisting the argument? Not re-signing Ellsbury was the right move. It's not part of the reason 2014 and 2015 have sucked. That's all I've been saying all along.

$22 million a year is much too much for an average-hitting corner outfielder. If you say Cruz or Cespedes would have been much better than Hanley I can't argue.

We would be better off defensively with anybody other than Hanley out there.

The loss of Ellsbury hasn't affected us much this year. As someone here said, our offense is fine - it's the pitching, stupid!

2015 Ellsbury: 74 games played 47 games missed .713 OPS 6 HR 26 RBI Pretty pathetic numbers. If he was doing this for the Sox, you know damn well the FO would be getting ripped for investing $153 million in him.

It's very questionable that letting Ellsbury go was a mistake. He has a .736 OPS for the Yanks and has missed a lot of games. Last night the Yankee announcers were grumbling about the fact that he didn't start the game, with a RHP on the mound, and yet he was healthy enough to be brought into the game in the 7th inning.

That's a bit of an oversimplification. Ben's 'devotees' have speculated that the acquisitions of Panda and/or Hanley may have come from Lucchino or Werner wanting some sexy signings for the fans. We don't know exactly how many moves Ben had the final say on. But we do know he wouldn't have the final say on any moves from now on.

Most if not all Sox fans give Duquette some of the credit for the 2004 championship team. It would be unreasonable not to. The argument is over how much credit. As for a 'decision', there can never be one on matters like this.

Ha, are you kidding? Since 2004 one of the biggest debates on Sox message boards has been about how much credit Duquette should get for the championships. Sox fans never forget anything and will argue until doomsday about stuff like that.

I don't think Cherington will regret getting out of town. He didn't want to be subject to DD's veto. He knows he'll get a job elsewhere. And we're still paying him through at least 2016 I believe.
