  1. Hey, how did Pablo end up in the 2017 Rotation thread?
  2. Did well with the compensation picks at least...Swihart & Bradley.
  3. Ellsbury and Papelbon walked after 2011, but so did Theo.
  4. He got randomized last year!
  5. Kimmi!
  6. I would speculate loss of bat speed, probably from simple deterioration of physical strength and/or coordination. That has sent the careers of many hitters to premature terminations.
  7. We will pick up another reliever or 2, the only question is will we be able to wait to the deadline to do it. We really can't afford another name brand premium reliever either in dollars or more prospects. It'll be one of DD's challenges this year.
  8. So tell us how you define a sport. We've still got a few months to kill here.
  9. Man, I wonder where that stupid, sexist expression came from sometimes LOL
  10. But Taz was a mediocre pitcher last year so replacing him is not much of an issue.
  11. I thought you were a 'throw stuff at the wall' advocate. Do you mean scrap heap types?
  12. I wish the crazy bugger the best too.
  13. Yep. Rasslin', runnin', jumpin', swimmin' and such. Only events you can perform in a pair of shorts.
  14. Well, if we really wanted to purify what a sport is we'd be down to the sports engaged in by the ancient Romans and Greeks.
  15. I think there have been times when I've been dismissive about certain sports too, including auto racing. But auto racing is plenty demanding. You're not just out for a Sunday drive. You're trying to go as fast as possible and beat the other drivers while making sure you and your car make it through the race in one piece. A lot of physical skill and mental acuity would obviously be required. I certainly wouldn't want to attempt it.
  16. I think it does, but some folks seem to have an issue with the fact that there's a machine involved.
  17. Your definition of sport seems pretty narrow. Regardless, it's widely accepted as a sport. A race car driver was SI's Sportsman of the Year in 1973.
  18. Physical stress plus racing pretty much seals the deal.
  19. The 1978 playoff game is engraved in my head forever. That was my worst day as a Sox fan, with 1986 Game 6 a close second.
  20. Hell yeah, real wrestling is one of the original sports. I can't relate to it, mind you...you have to be in serious shape for that one.
  21. I'll tell you what golf has that hardly any other sports have. Ethics and sportsmanship. Golfers call penalties on themselves. Golfers treat each other with respect. It's one of the few sports left you see consistently civilized behavior.
  22. I didn't say I thought Pomeranz was a better starter than Wright. Their numbers are pretty close, the samples are pretty small. All I've said is that I'd like to see what Pomeranz can do out of the gate. If he busts put him back in the pen and keep him there as the swing guy for the rest of 2017-2018. Just a personal preference for how I'd like to see things go, honestly. You and moon have good arguments as well. And all our opinions will be given the same weight by the Sox FO.
  23. Golf is much a sport as baseball. They're both primarily games of skill in which athleticism is an asset, but not a necessity.
  24. That's a major overstatement. Last year he had a 2.01 ERA in his first 14 starts and a 5.55 ERA in his last 10 starts. If that's amazingly consistent I'd hate to see inconsistent.
  25. Yeah, that's probably part of it. With knuckleballers there are some other factors that come into play. Atmospheric conditions, passed balls etc. Every outings is a bit of an adventure.
