  1. Did you mean to say Quintana over Sale, or Quintana over Gray?
  2. An overachieving homer prone rental - that really has a ring to it. Are you implying that DD didn't know Reed was a rental?
  3. To me, the 'protection' concept makes some sense in theory at least. Look at the extreme case of Barry Bonds in the 2002-2004 seasons. In 420 games he was walked 578 times, including 249 times intentionally. It seems reasonable to assume that he would not have been walked this many times if he had a hitter as good as him batting behind him. Of course there weren't any other hitters as good as him.
  4. Saturday night threads are usually quiet because most of us are party animals.
  5. FWIW Tito has Guyer batting second tonight with a .680 OPS. I'm not sure many managers buy into the idea of putting one of your best hitters up second. Which is not to say Holt isn't an odd choice.
  6. Now you're into the 'clutch hitting' argument, which you can't possibly win.
  7. It's sort of a 'literary' book - it's semi-autobiographical and it's based around some actual events in my life, but there's a lot of made-up stuff too. It's set in the year 2003 and the Red Sox are in there. It's intended to be sort of 'deep' with psychological and philosophical stuff about life, but it's also meant to be humorous.
  8. It really is pretty sad when it doesn't make sense financially for one of the richest teams in the game to hold onto any of their top young players for the long term.
  9. Their winning pct. is .706. The 2001 Mariners hold the record for a 162 game schedule of 116-46, which was .716. (The 2001 Mariners lost in 5 games in the ALCS.)
  10. Back to back 74's. He did better than a lot of people expected him to and finished ahead of some real golfers.
  11. Sometimes these trades have a bad effect on me - I actually hope the players we traded don't do that well. Right now I'm keeping an eye on Travis Shaw to see if he has a late fade like he did last year. I'm not proud of it but it seems to be kind of a natural thing to do.
  12. The 2014 A's were 66-41 when we traded Lester to them. They went 22-33 the rest of the way.
  13. I remember when the Yankees had their own 'Killer B's' that were going to anchor the team's future rotations - Betances, Banuelos and Brackman. Instead of 3 starters they got 1 reliever.
  14. Not a very good comp LOL
  15. It's going to be finished, within the next 12-18 months, unless I die or lose my faculties.
  16. They're approaching the Tom Brady Retirement Canyon...how much longer can he play?
  17. I'm trying to write a novel myself...been at it 4 years actually.
  18. I know this doesn't mean much, but I love Vazquez's 'game face'. He looks like a guy who is very intense and who also loves playing the game.
  19. I think Dombrowski walked into a franchise that was very well-stacked with position players at the major league and farm level, but at the same time in terrible shape with its pitching at the major league level and at the farm level (aside from prospects who were several years away). Every single one of his major moves has been aimed at addressing the pitching paucity.
  20. It's pretty rare that a kid hits the bricks running and never looks back. Mookie Betts might be one of those rarities - he's had a few rough spots but overall he's been great from Day One in every facet of the game.
  21. Workman looks great. It's nice to see one of these sad injury stories have a happier outcome for once. Also, I somehow failed to realize this before, but he is one big dude!
  22. Steph Curry is playing in the Web.com golf tournament this weekend. He shot a 4-over 74 in the first round. Respectable.
  23. Wow, he really becomes a lunatic in the wee hours, doesn't he?
