  1. All good points Max. Baseball is indeed a game of enemies reacting.
  2. If we win the division, our chances of beating the Guardians or Astros are unlikely to hinge on upgrading at 3B. It'll be more about the pitching performances.
  3. I'm not really disputing your general point, but Bogaerts did well for us in the 2013 postseason, switching positions at that.
  4. I actually enjoyed a couple of games I saw on MLB Network with Bob Costas and John Smoltz.
  5. I was nonplussed by the Crawford signing, just as I was by the Pablo and Hanley signings. I wasn't unhappy, but the moves seemed odd to me.
  6. Because you're only looking at RBI rather than total runs produced.
  7. Kimmi can correct me on this but I believe what she said is that the #3 spot is the worst of the top 4 spots. It's either the 4th best or 5th best spot in the order.
  8. Dempster had actually pitched more like a #3 or even a #2 with the Cubs - 200 innings a year with an ERA+ of 110 or better most years.
  9. 3.79 runs a game with Mookie hitting 3rd. 5.58 runs a game with Mookie hitting 1st. We have to do something about this! The Wizards of TalkSox have the solution!
  10. You're leaving out a couple of things though. 1) If Betts is hitting third instead of first you're now reducing the RBI opportunities for XB and Pedroia. 2) The aforementioned point about Betts's total plate appearances going down. If you can calculate the total net effect of all this you're a better man than me.
  11. Sort of, yes. Mookie has many of the characteristics of a good leadoff hitter and many characteristics of a good power & RBI guy. He's a hybrid.
  12. Nope. If it was weather we'd be giving up more runs too, but we're not. Both teams play in the same weather.
  13. It's a tall order though. Rice is in the HOF. Many think Lynn would be in the HOF if not for all the injuries. Many think Evans should be in the HOF. He's a borderliner at least.
  14. We've got 16 hits and our 1-2-3 hitters have none of them. The amazing game of baseball.
  15. He's got 9 strikeouts and 1 walk. He's doing OK.
  16. Rice, Lynn and Evans are the other contender since TV came along.
  17. High pitch count but he's pitching great so far.
  18. I'm liking him a lot.
  19. There's a big difference between Mookie and Papi. Mookie has speed.
  20. I say let the team do all the brain-wracking.
  21. Still no fire?
  22. Batting 3rd instead of 1st costs about 35 PA's over a season, and obviously those missed PA's come at the end of the game so that needs to be considered as well.
  23. I'm not sure Ben wants to be a GM.
  24. Yes, Moreland deserves credit too.
  25. I already don't like it even before you have a chance to say it.
