  1. Manager is a step up from bench coach. Also: $$$$$
  2. My assessment of your intelligence just took a big leap.
  3. Damon was another guy who was really good at fouling off a pile of pitches.
  4. I don't disagree that Moreland is likely to be at least as good as Hanley in 2018. The only thing is, Hanley is already paid for 2018. And Moreland had a good enough year that he might be able to get a deal for $9-10 million a year now.
  5. Re: September swoons Just for the sake of keeping facts straight, we were 17-11 in September/October 16, and 19-10 in September/October 17 (regular season only).
  6. Trading JBJ would be brutal. Unfortunately he's one of our few really attractive trading chips.
  7. I hate it too, but it's an incentive for players to sign with you. I'm not sure there's any precedent for negotiating with a player to remove one of these things, and the Players Union would probably frown on it to say the least.
  8. I hate to add this but right now if a player is thinking maximum money and maximum chance at contending for rings he's probably thinking Yankees/Dodgers.
  9. He's not going to opt out, though, unless it's a virtual lock he'll get more money. He'd only do it if he's coming off a strong season and healthy.
  10. Stanton has no reason to give up his opt-out. If you're in his position it's a pretty precious commodity.
  11. Pretty simple really. Cherington & Lucchino took the blame for 2014-2015. Expectations for 2017 were very high - maybe championship high. Then there's this little line you often hear when a manager or GM gets canned: "We felt it was time to go in a new direction."
  12. Henry is unquestionably the best owner the Sox have ever had. But the Yankees have done well and are still doing well with the Steinbrenner boys. We're ahead of the Yankees in titles since Henry took over and that's something to be proud of. The Yankees look pretty strong going forward though.
  13. I'd say probably not, but it depends on all the circumstances. Hinch was in a great position to do this with Keuchel going Game 5 if necessary on regular rest.
  14. He was joking.
  15. One good power hitter is probably what we'll be getting.
  16. He might get canned but it won't be because of today's game.
  17. The current weather forecast would suggest there is no way they can play baseball in Boston this afternoon.
  18. David for batting coach, not manager. I would not wish the job of Red Sox manager on him. He is a beloved legend in Boston, let's leave it that way. Managers mostly take abuse.
  19. It's easy to argue against these things though. If a player can turn it up, why don't they do it all the time instead of only on selected occasions? Momentum - didn't Houston have all the momentum in the world after the first inning yesterday? We seem to have it now, but how confident are we that momentum will help Rick Porcello mow down the Houston hitters? There's a lot of stuff in baseball that's just hard to explain. In the old days guys used to just shrug and say 'Hey, things just went my way today' or 'hey, I just didn't have it today'.
  20. Are you suggesting that he raised the level of his game, Kimmi?
  21. But you're selecting the sample that best fits your argument. To be fair you would have to compare everything from last 2 starts to last 10 starts or some such thing. I'm not in disagreement with you, really. I would have probably have preferred Porcello too. But I don't think it was a big slam-dunk. Hopefully Porcello will make your call look even better tomorrow.
  22. It was a good effort by Reddick - tough play, bad luck.
  23. He didn't chock today, that's for sure.
