He ended with a 314/350/507 line for the PawSox last year - 15 HR, 22 2B and 14 SB in 87 games - very solid numbers, really.

In case anyone missed it, Silverman of the Herald wrote a story about the Red Sox making a mistake going to arbitration with Mookie, and that this was the second time they'd been adversarial with him about money. MLBTR picked up the story.

I can't imagine DD even bothering to make that offer if he didn't think it was in the neighborhood of what JDM is ultimately going to sign for. It would be pointless.

Dombrowski recently said the Red Sox are focused on obtaining a middle-of-the-order bat by free agency or trade. That suggests they are still very much in on JDM.

It's certainly not necessarily a bad thing to have to wait like this. I am starting to wonder if there's something a little dirty going on behind all the inactivity...hopefully not.

That's the way it should work, but NESN ratings have been dropping even with the team winning the division 2 years in a row. Hopefully the team will be a little more fun to watch with Cora as manager.

The guy that did the chat on MLBTR today thinks the free agents will soon start signing at a clip of one or two a day. That would seem to make sense. But this has been one wacky offseason. What is it, the biggest game of chicken in history or something?
