  1. Now that's looking at the dark side...sometimes we won't tolerate someone else's optimism LOL
  2. He might as well have spent the last month on a beach somewhere in the tropics.
  3. There's no freaking way DD is done.
  4. Oh I know. You have to forgive me, I'm so bored I'll argue about anything right now.
  5. Oh sure, equating a pitcher's numbers to an agent's numbers is perfectly logical.
  6. It's starting to shape up as a test for the whole baseball economic system. I'm starting to get a bad feeling about the 2018 season. The rumblings have begun.
  7. Boras is used to feeding frenzy offseasons. This offseason might be the true test of his skills.
  8. I'm just suggesting the only reason they choose Boras is because he has gotten the biggest money deals in the past. It doesn't necessarily mean he's actually good at what he does.
  9. Boras has the track record for getting the big deals, yes. But maybe it's just a case of the rich getting richer. How do we know other agents wouldn't have gotten just as much money?
  10. It seems like we're out 22 million no matter which way we go, doesn't it?
  11. Boras almost completely blew it for A-Rod, too. A-Rod had to take matters into his own hands and go crawling to the Yankee brass. Fortunately for him Hank Steinbrenner was there to play the fool.
  12. I understand the sentiment, but I don't think Dave Dombrowski is going to use 'hardball' tactics quite like that. But he could certainly place a deadline on his best offer.
  13. Or, the Red Sox will decide the matter by pulling their offer and going in another direction. Martinez will end up signing a smaller deal with Arizona because, well, he still wants to play baseball and like everyone he could use $100 million. There are all sorts of scenarios, harmony. Boras clients haven't always profited from his tactics. See Varitek, Jason and Drew, Stephen.
  14. Red Sox ownership is wealthy, no one's denying that. But between all the bad contracts they've experienced, and all the taxes and penalties in place for exceeding payroll thresholds, you can't blame them for being a little conservative about how much they're willing to pay JDM.
  15. Porcello also pretty much sucked in 2017. The guy just seems to throw too many pitches in the fat part of the plate.
  16. I'm not averse to signing Cobb, but most seem to be. He also has the dreaded QO attached.
  17. The facts indicate that Lester, ever the stand-up guy, was still open to re-signing with the Sox. If you recall it ended up with us, the Cubs and the Giants bidding for him. Then Lester informed the Giants they were out of it. Theo outbid us by $20 million. He 'overpaid', as we're all so fond of saying.
  18. Yes, they basically traded Lester for Porcello. I'm still not a fan of it.
  19. The other thing about Porcello is that he might be a case of being treated a little too well by fWAR as opposed to bWAR. If you look at Porcello's ERA+ or ERA-, he has actually been a below average pitcher most years.
  20. Certainly not if Cobb's arm falls off as most think it will.
  21. Way overstated. Porcello has NOT been a better value than Scherzer or Lester so far in terms of dollars per fWAR.
  22. Hanley is a very likable fellow who can rake when he's healthy and in the groove. That said, he had an fWAR of -0.4 last year. He has a cumulative fWAR of 0.6 in 3 years for us, and has been paid 66 million dollars. So certainly we have issues with him in terms of value and cost. Plus he's got that burdensome vesting option adding to the yuck factors.
  23. Don't count him out yet. He's probably more motivated than ever. It's all up to medical science.
  24. There are actually two pretty big ifs. Pitchers staying healthy and offensive players rebounding. And then there's the Yankees. Pythagoras says they were 7 games better than us last year, and they added this Stanton guy and they still have some money and prospects to add on with...
  25. Yes, it'll work out in the end for someone, that's for sure. Hopefully it's us. I think JDM is a good bet to be good, personally.
