  1. It was notin who originally questioned this. But I'm questioning it too. The Yankees made the playoffs every year from 1995 to 2012 except 2008, and they won 89 games in 2008. So yes, it's possible to go a long time without getting a pick above #20 (unless, under the old rules, you got it from losing a free agent.)
  2. We lost Rizzo...I assume you realize that but you're not being very clear.
  3. But you're the same guy who has been telling us over and over how we have to capitalize on our window.
  4. Maybe the 'back end of the build' is an 'issue' for every GM, even the best, because that's just the way it works.
  5. I have to call nonsense on this. Let's just recap the record: 15 years as GM 3 World Series wins 7 LCS appearances 9 playoff appearances
  6. None, you're right about that, I was just talking about his overall approach.
  7. Please explain this.
  8. I think Theo tries to use a balanced approach. Drafts, trades, free agents.
  9. He's not incapable. He made a good move trading Cespedes for Fulmer.
  10. Define 'skyrocket' in this case.
  11. Well, we've finally had our first 9-figure signing...
  12. Which means that Price averaged about .15 fWAR per start, and Darvish about .145 per start. Not very different in terms of performance.
  13. What's so bad about DH's? That Ortiz guy was OK.
  14. Not really the way it was in 2017. Most were screaming about our underperforming offense and lack of power.
  15. I'm not convinced that J D Martinez is any greedier than any other big ticket free agent. The 7/210 numbers from Boras were ridiculous, but the MLBTR prediction was 6/150, and MLBTR has a solid track record with their predictions. Martinez, like many free agents this offseason, has been taken by surprise by how conservative MLB teams have suddenly become. If this was a 'normal' offseason like we've come to expect, Martinez probably would have been signed by the Sox for around 6/150 a long time ago, had the introductory press conference with big smiles all around, and would be with the team in camp.
  16. Arrieta is likely looking for around the same as what we've offered JDM. No loot saved there.
  17. a) Go after which SP? Save our loot for exactly who in 19?
  18. I finally have to ask you this: what's the lowdown on your screen name-does it come from Reggie?
  19. If George Steinbrenner was still alive that's probably exactly what would happen. In the great Yankee tradition, George loved to stick it to the Red Sox whenever possible and take players that had been with the Sox or almost with the Sox like A-Rod.
  20. Talksox GM's are playin' hardball now!
  21. Hanley has some X factor upside of course...he was probably one of the best hitters in baseball the last half of 2016.
  22. I don't think there can be any doubt now that Boras made a blunder with his original campaign about the King Kong of Slug looking for $210 million. There has to be some embarrassment factor there for Martinez. It seems Boras had no clue whatsoever what he was walking into this offseason.
  23. Then I might look at: Last by how much, time-wise?
  24. I don't know if I dreamed it or not, but I'm pretty sure someone on MLB Network said last night the Sox actual offer to JDM is 5/110.
