  1. This market is so out of the ordinary that all you can really do is trust in DD. This is a big time for him to show that he's a really good GM.
  2. I keep Porcello. He's an innings-eater and he can pitch better than he did last year. He just has to do it. We have a new pitching coach so let's hope that helps.
  3. So let me get this straight - the Red Sox are a bunch of miserable pricks, even though they've made the highest offer. What a Looney Tunes offseason. And it's a long way from over.
  4. How about those Toronto Raptors?
  5. According to FanGraphs, Porcello had a 2.0 WAR and was worth 16.3 million last year. According to Baseball-Reference, Porcello had a -0.2 WAR and was worth, well, less than nothing last year. Little wonder that WAR for pitchers can be a head-scratcher.
  6. Forget about the kudos, then, but no one can judge him without knowing what he was feeling like at the time.
  7. I trust you're not including savvy Talksox posters in this 'public' of which you speak.
  8. Yeah, I'm certainly not judging him.
  9. Maybe he wanted to spite her out of the 6.5 million.
  10. Poor Schill, he forgot the part about how you could still blow all that money on a goddamn video game venture. Too bad for the grandkids.
  11. I believe you're 100% correct spud. We can look at it however we want, but the American legal system has deemed it to be a monopoly.
  12. I certainly get what you're saying. I'm not ready to think of Martinez as a bad guy yet. I tend to think he's relying on the advice of Boras. To me it's not much different than if you're trying to sell your house. You've got an offer in hand for $350,000 but your agent is convinced that if you wait a little longer you'll get an offer for $360,000 or $375,000. The agent has a good track record of being right. What do you do? Most people would probably listen to the agent. They wouldn't want to kick themselves later for getting less money for the house than they could have. I think there's a fine line between greed and just wanting to get the best deal you can. Maybe it's just human nature.
  13. Or it simply suggests Martinez and Boras are simply holding out in hopes of 6 years, just as Hosmer and Boras seem to be simply holding out in hopes of 8 years.
  14. I don't disagree. If he was to re-sign with Arizona for 110 million or something like that, no one could say he had been greedy.
  15. Let me put it this way, if Martinez signs somewhere else for 125 million or less I'm going to be pissed. That would be less than what MLBTR projected him to sign for. He's far from a perfect player but he's a perfect fit for us in several departments. Baseball-wise it's his power, of course. Cost-wise, it's money and money only. Not a single prospect nor draft pick shall be harmed.
  16. One of the concerns about our offense as it stands is the complete lack of depth. If one key guy goes down we could be in a lot of trouble. Unless a guy like Brentz were to really step up. But that may be a lot to ask.
  17. Bradley? I like him and I wish him the best, but it wouldn't shock me if he has a terrible year at the plate.
  18. For the free agents it's not a 100% monopoly, but the number of potential employers is tiny compared to most jobs. And this offseason it seems like there are no potential employers at all for a lot of players. I can't blame them for being concerned about the situation.
  19. I think in our position, if you have an opportunity to upgrade you need to do it. -As some folks have pointed out, our window is a small one. -I think winning the division over the Yankees is going to be tough. Why wouldn't you want to improve our chances?
  20. I'd be feeling more hopeful if JDM was signed. He's still on your wish list too, according to your signature. I think the idea that we're going to be just fine if we stand pat is a bit silly. The Yankees added some guy named Stanton and they were already 7 games better than us last year based on run differential.
  21. Yay projections! And what happens if Bogey gets another apparently minor injury early in the season that screws him for the whole season again? Etc. etc. I don't mean to be a pessimist, but sometimes too much optimism is not a good thing.
  22. Maybe...we don't know what the hell's going on...it's bizarro world. LoMo was projected to get 3/36 by MLBTR.
  23. I don't really disagree with you. I just want them to sign Martinez.
  24. The Moreland signing shouldn't be a crippler though. It's Chris Young money.
  25. Projections for Hanley are meaningless, don't you think? Most of our chat about Hanley has been about making sure that GD option doesn't vest. We have to do something to upgrade IMO. If it isn't JDM, sign Arrieta or something. Standing pat just doesn't cut it.
