  1. I don't see how. That was over 3 years ago.
  2. I'm hoping for a good year for Rick. But I think even he would tell you that 2 out of his 3 seasons with us have been disappointing ones. His durability is certainly a big plus though.
  3. Might be even better if he used his middle name - Casey.
  4. Some new additions: White Sox prospect-unfortunately out for the season: Jake Burger Pitching for Pittsburgh today: Damien Magnifico
  5. Hanley has been hitting 3rd.
  6. I'd be quite happy if Porcello gives us another 195 innings, with an ERA of 4.25 or less.
  7. I don't think so. 42 wins, 36 losses, 16 no-decisions.
  8. I think the starting pitching will likely be the deciding factor over 162 games.
  9. With a pitcher like Porcello, Quality Starts and Quality Start % would be a meaningful stat, I think.
  10. You might say when it came to hitting, Ted Williams had a powerful computer in his head.
  11. There is no other sport as conducive to superstition as baseball. It's a beautiful game; it's also a weird and freaky game, and that's part of its appeal.
  12. All things considered we were a bit lucky there were no other bidders. At the start of the offseason I figured JD would probably get the 6/150 that MLBTR predicted.
  13. Ask harmony. And while you're at it, remind him that he lost his bet. He took the field against the Red Sox.
  14. I have a lot of respect for the advanced metrics. But Porcello's 2017 fWAR of 2.0 really seems bogus. His 2017 bWAR was minus .2, which would give him a dollar value of...he owes us some money back.
  15. Full marks for this.
  16. Some of a catcher's value doesn't show up on the stat sheet though.
  17. That's pure speculation as far as Nunez is concerned, of course.
  18. I think part of the benefit of Betts leading off is his speed, too. But yes, this stuff about the lineup can all get a bit muddled, that's for sure.
  19. Batting 2nd supposedly yields the optimum combination of plate appearances and RBI opportunities.
  20. That's all factored into the Cot's Contracts tax numbers.
  21. Now now cp we're not talking about catcher, we're talking about first base. You mentioned bad hops, so here's the deal - you tell me the last time a major league first baseman had to spend time on the DL because of a bad hop and I'll concede you're right that it's a dangerous position.
  22. If Cora has JD hit 3rd it'll be a little surprising. JD seems like the perfect 4 hitter. But we'll see.
  23. But how many times do these things actually result in injury? I just can't remember seeing many first basemen get injured on the field. First basemen seem to be the most likely guys to play 150 games or more. Meanwhile we've seen Hanley and Swihart get injured out in left in the last few years running into walls. Just throwing it out there.
