  1. True. But John Henry is starting to resemble Emperor Nero.
  2. Yeah, we have. One little bright spot in this generally gloomy period.
  3. "Just watch the kids play!" - that sounds like music to JH's ears.
  4. It was kind of a troika with those two and the great Rusney Castillo. That was a quick quarter billion down the tubes.
  5. Either of those would signal very serious. Strange how doubtful we still are about that.
  6. It's not a surprise. They had him for one year at a nice price and they knew the price to keep him was going to be substantially more. And he's a pretty limited player and not the most reliable health-wise. It remains to be seen if they make any attempt to replace his RH power.
  7. It would certainly look considerably better. It would confirm that they mean business. We'd still be howling for a bullpen upgrade, mind you.
  8. Granted, but the $1.6 billion hypothetical number is based on moon's hypothetical $1.5 billion bid by the Red Sox LOL The bottom line is Cohen said he wouldn't be outbid by anyone for Soto, including the Yanks, and he wasn't fooling.
  9. Your reading comprehension is brutal. $15 mill is what's been reported as an estimate and I clearly said that's all I was interested in paying. That's the opposite of assuming anything. It's exhausting to have to explain things like this.
  10. I think what you try to do is simplify things too much and in the process you don't seem to give much credit to the other person's intelligence. As I said, we can all read B-R.
  11. For some perspective, they risked 38.5 million on Lucas Giolito coming off 2 months of pitching batting practice. 15 million is about 40% of that.
  12. IF the Sox sign Buehler and all goes mostly well it's a huge plus. Maybe he even agrees to a club option for 2026? You don't get many chances to acquire a starter of his caliber for relatively light financial risk. The problem is these Red Sox seem to be continuing to be tight with the budget, so even $15 million might be more than they're willing to gamble.
  13. No one is trying to minimize it. I think we can all read Baseball-Reference just fine. Like countless other pitchers of this era he's had elbow problems, we get it. I'm only interested if he really and truly is available for $15 mill or so. He's relatively young and has shown elite upside. He looked healthy when last seen throwing a baseball. There are arguments for and against, obviously. In any case it probably won't happen anyway so we're just sparring with other for fun.
  14. Taillon is another guy who has come back from 2 TJs, isn't he? It seems possible to me that medical science in this area might improve as it goes along. Admittedly any such improvement might be offset by the "max effort on every pitch" approach to pitching...
  15. Can't always rely on the BTV numbers for realistic trades though. If the Pirates would actually trade Jones for Abreu plus that 10+ other it would probably be done already.
  16. Hey, they've been going all out to win...as many as they lose, or thereabouts.
  17. Such wonky analysis. 2018-2021 was plenty of innings. The IP totals the last 3 years are god-awful. But that tends to be the case with TJ surgeries.
  18. JH is 75 freakin' years old. His looks never change so some may not be aware how advanced he is. Time to lighten up and have a little fun again before it's too late, no, John?
  19. Also, last offseason we heard the Sox don't think highly of his stuff, which was one of the few reasons we've heard for not signing a guy that actually make sense...
  20. I think it's a sign of how skeptical Sox fans have become that hardly anyone thinks the Sox are serious about signing Burnes, who is clearly the premier starting pitcher available. We're all thinking Pivetta or Buehler or Manaea or...nothing. Even Flaherty feels like a longshot. And they haven't really done much about the pen except for one signing that generated more yuck than anything. Vibes are still really weird.
  21. Oh, I'm not sold that Buehler is back either. I think the bottom line for me as a fan is that a Buehler signing would inject a little excitement. I like the Crochet trade, but in general Red Sox offseasons continue to be dreadfully dull and disappointing affairs.
  22. You have a pretty good sense of humor for a Yankee fan. 😊
  23. Massively different profiles and risks. But moon likes to keep things simple. And right now just about everything on planet Earth looks less risky to him than Buehler...
  24. Your second "less risky than Buehler" post in the last 12 hours LOL Montgomery's 2025 salary is 22.5 mill. If Buehler gets the projected 15 mill, it seems like Monty would put 50% more money at risk.
  25. BTW the Kluber signing was not a horrible signing. Nobody complained that loudly. Mind you the market was down to a few scraps when he signed. Didn't seem to be much competition for him. It was the fact that it was the only starter signing that offseason that was horrible.
