    John Smoltz became the latest ballplayer to find out what it's like playing golf with the big boys. Smoltz won a qualifier to get in the US Senior Open, which is an impressive feat. He shot 85-77, 22 over, to miss the cut by 14 strokes, finishing ahead of only about 10 others. A little disappointing, I was hoping for him to make the cut, but the course is obviously brutally hard.

    Very reasonable! Well at least it's not as bad as what SC30 used to suggest as a disincentive program.

    A reference point for an extension for Mookie would be the one Altuve got recently. And I think I'm getting too lazy to look all these things up anymore.

    Bryce Harper is a guy I definitely wouldn't trust to live up to his next contract.

    What makes him tough is that he can really hit his spots. You're not going to see many pitches in the middle of the plate.

    Fair point. I believe the premise is that Walken was 'the other guy' in her life, and thus Wagner is presumed to be the one with the motive.

    Oh, I agree, the favorite wins the majority of the time. But in a baseball playoff game that probably translates to the favorite winning 52% of the time.

    So if we're in the Wild Card game and we're -110, that would basically mean we 'only' have a 45% chance of being eliminated rather than a 50% chance.

    The oddsmakers' primary goal is to set the odds so that equal money is bet on both sides.

    Mitch Moreland is Mitch Moreland. Mookie Betts is an all-around superstar playing for one of the richest franchises in the game. He might be one of the all-time greats. He has a value to the franchise over and above his immense value on the field. You have to go the extra mile for such a property, IMO.

    FanGraphs has him at a total career UZR/150 of -3.1 runs. That looks like mediocre to me.

    You're right. I think mediocre encompasses slightly above and slightly below average. So the question is, how far below average is JD as a fielder?

    Agreed that 10 year deals rarely work out, but a proper comparison would be age-specific and eliminate obvious lunacy like the Pujols signing at age 32.

    Not just yet! 'Below average' can be properly described as mediocre, wouldn't you say? It looks like for his career JD falls into that category.

    Her death was very sad and somewhat mysterious. The tabloids are still on the case, trying to nail Robert Wagner for it!

    Devers and Bradley are also starting to elongate.

    STORK'S 'three stooges' are Kelly, Barnes and Hembree. He's been razzing us about them since the get-go. He razzed DD for not re-signing Addison Reed, who is not looking that great now. These are but some of the reasons I keep calling STORK an idiot.
