  1. So why not trade for Arenado and, separately or not, trade Yoshida for as much salary as you can dump? Assuming Devers accepts the transition, all of a sudden you have a roster that makes some sense.
  2. OK, so what do we do with the troika of Raffy/Casas/Masa if they do trade for Arenado?
  3. a) Right, my bad. b) Chaim Bloom, possibly. Hey, I'm just happy we've found something to kick around here.
  4. a) Arenado's AAV is 30.55 million. b) I don't think anyone is penciling him in for 3WAR * 3. If you did a 3 year projection it's probably more like 6 total.
  5. But he still keeps getting hired by most of the big names.
  6. If Sox pay 1/3 of Yoshida's salary, STL would shed about 18.5 mill.
  7. If only Breslow could work out a deal with St Louis that involves them taking Yoshida. Quite possible that's what he's been trying to do and it's been holding up the deal.
  8. If it pushes Devers to DH, it also pushes Yoshida and his 18 million AAV...somewhere.
  9. AKA the BORAS PLAN B.
  10. All depends on exactly what other pieces and financial arrangements are involved. Could be a mid-level prospect that balances things out.
  11. Last we heard Devers and his agent were taking a pretty firm stance that he was staying at third for the time being. Hard to imagine that this late in the game they're going to shuffle up the infield and deal with Devers on it before Opening Day. But who knows with this front office.
  12. PECOTA says we not only didn't get better, we're gonna be worse. That'd be a revoltin' development.
  13. Instead of that it looks like Sam is pretty much official team spokesman now. Such is life in the upside-down world of the Sox.
  14. It's hard to be serious about this stuff when you have a lot of doubt that the team is serious about it. You'd think if there was a deal to be made it should have happened before this. Not sure what changed to put it back on the table. Seems like the Sox just want some rumors out there to keep us entertained while the clock runs out on the offseason.
  15. It's even worse with me. I've concluded that hardly anything is on the level.
  16. Consider it done. 😛
  17. Why? Well, let's look at a few details here. 1) The amount in this particular transaction was $200,000. 2) The total amount reportedly stolen was "almost $17 million". That's $200,000 TIMES 85. 3) The story given by the interpreter for the $200,000 was that it was for a car loan to a friend. I can see getting away with that story once, but it doesn't really cover the other $16.8 million, does it? Maybe it's because I'm an accountant who has worked on audits. Maybe I'm just a born skeptic. But I think the bank still has some 'splaining to do.
  18. I was merely answering who the AAAA relievers are. These are the guys we saw way too much of for a stretch last year blowing leads aplenty, along with other departed ones of course.
  19. Well, we did finally learn that they have a recording of the interpreter on the phone with the bank. https://apnews.com/article/shohei-ohtani-interpreter-ippei-mizuhara-bank-recording-030c0d89ecd7a6b8c55811d92842ab48#:~:text=A nearly four-minute audio,loan%2C federal prosecutors said Thursday. I still find it amazing that this could have happened over and over without the bank thinking it might be useful to have a quick sit-down with Ohtani in person.
  20. Bernardino Weissert Wilson Winckowski
  21. It wasn't until I typed that last part that it occurred to me that Yates is actually going to cost the Dodgers about $27 million!!!
  22. I will admit to being somewhat influenced by Recency Effect. Call me crazy, but I have to think a guy who had a good 2024 and was healthy at the end of the year is usually going to be a better bet than a guy who didn't play in 2024. The Dodgers seemed to think it was worth a shot. Of course, $13 million is couch cushion stuff to them, even with 110% tax added on, right? 🙃
  23. No worries, we'll all get nothing. The Sox are equal opportunity disappointers.
