  1. The Padres have also signed Hosmer and Machado the last two years, clearly showing they are not averse to making an expensive splash here and there. And they need pitching. I've certainly seen more unlikely scenarios than the Padres being interested in Price...
  2. And the Yankees were lucky in 2009 because A-Rod had a great postseason for the only time in his career. The discredit game is pretty easy.
  3. It's not just the spending. It's the barren farm system. The Red Sox obviously need someone to rebuild the farm, and no one in their right mind would think DD is that guy.
  4. I'm quite sure it was a combination of things. The personality conflict stuff actually makes a nice cover, if the real reason was just a cold-blooded assessment that DD wasn't the right guy going forward.
  5. It's not an established fact by any stretch. And Henry also approved Cherington's signings, but that doesn't mean they had nothing to do with his departure.
  6. If the Red Sox FO is full of crap, where exactly are Gammons and Russo getting their facts on why Henry really fired DD?
  7. Actions speak louder than words. Hiring Chaim Bloom says money and strategy were very much on Henry's mind.
  8. That's not for the record. That's speculation. Henry made some remarks that suggested there were some differences on strategy.
  9. Is a +73 run differential not even considered 'competitive' by your standards? I think teams have made the playoffs and even won the World Series with worse.
  10. If I was the Dodgers I would have interest in Price if the Sox paid half. 3/48 for a pitcher of his pedigree seems like a decent risk to me.
  11. Weber's 29. I honestly don't know what the depth chart looks like, but I expect we better be prepared for once again having multiple relievers who are mediocre at best.
  12. Alex Speier has been debunking the rumor about discussions with the Dodgers re Betts.
  13. The sad thing is we had numerous guys who pitched WORSE than Weber did.
  14. And another day goes by. Boy: "Mr. Godot told me to tell you he won't come this evening, but surely to-morrow."
  15. So the Yankees can either trade him or put him on waivers?
  16. Wouldn't we have to trade for him?
  17. Miami is close to Haiti...
  18. You're right that being in a big rush could be detrimental. On the other hand, if we wait until close to spring training to make that first big move, it makes it harder to map out the rest of the moves that need to be made. Meanwhile the available players are flying off the shelves.
  19. No, everyone's going to want the 'Bumgarner discount' now! Promo code: BUM
  20. Yeah I just read that. One of those rare guys who isn't after the last dollar.
  21. I know, it's crazy. Now we have a parade, and the head of ops gets fired the next year, and some people want the manager fired...
  22. Going strictly on memory here, I think Eric Hinske doubled on each of his first 3 AB's as a Red Sox.
