One idea we bandied about was that the Red Sox decision on whether to punt 2020 might be based on the report on Sale's health. Sale's report was good, so in theory they should be less likely to punt now.

A handful of fans on this website have called for it. A pretty high percentage of fans are stupid, I would never argue with that.

The trading and then trying to sign sounds OK in theory. But in reality there are plenty of s***** possibilities created by it too.

Except Wheeler has pitched 377.2 innings over the last 2 seasons. So he's got a nice Recency Effect going for him.

That's one part of it. The other part is that trading him so you can re-set so you can have a lower tax rate for two years so you can (try to) pay the guy $35 million a year for 10 years is not much of a plan.

You're right, but that's the other thing fans do, is whine. I have no regrets about the Price signing, personally. He made it pay in 2018.

A lot of Yankee fans are pissed off at Cashman for being too clever about the starting pitching, not just doing the obvious thing and acquiring the big name studs.

I think we saved more money on Crawford than we would on Price. We only paid Crawford for 2011 and about 3/4 of 2012.

But who is going to take on all that money? It's 60 million for 2020.

What I mean is, the Punto deal was exciting because it shed some real albatrosses. Trading Betts would just be a drag.
