  1. Cot's it is, then.
  2. It seems that way. So maybe averaging the two would be fair.
  3. When I compared the two in my Budgie thread, it appears that Spotrac projects a much larger number for players being called up from the minors during the year. It almost seems to be a worst case scenario projection.
  4. Not really, because the Sox can afford to pay tax a lot more than most clubs. They also said getting below $208 was 'a goal, not a mandate.'
  5. Yeah, I'm sure they had a plan. But maybe they didn't plan on the relative lack of interest of other teams in giving up much for Price & Bradley. The bottom line is I have to jabber about something while waiting.
  6. The Sox front office has done a masterful job telling us 0 about their real thoughts to this point.
  7. Perfect.
  8. And I don't buy that they're going to trade Betts. Not after all the statements about the priority of being competitive. Right now the ticket buyers are merely restless. Trading Betts at this point would make them irate.
  9. Last year's was a snooze, but compared to this one it was a festival of fun. At least there were the signings of Eovaldi and Pearce to keep us feelin' good. And the mystery of what DD was doing about the pen.
  10. I and others said it should be an interesting offseason for us. It's been anything but to this point.
  11. The main point I was trying to make to Nick is that even if we do nothing about the pen or first base, we're at least 18.5 mill over the limit. So trading Mookie at the deadline wouldn't come close to getting us under.
  12. We've got about a dozen active posters here. And not many of them are up in arms about our lack of spending this offseason.
  13. The White Sox have also been busy.
  14. That's absolutely correct, and I for one am not panicking, but... Cot's has us at 18.5 mill over the first threshold right now, and other payroll estimators have us even higher than that. And we haven't done anything about the bullpen or first base.
  15. You can eliminate the redundancy by saying 'might have', like most people do. Just trying to help.
  16. I don't totally disagree, but it's pretty obvious at this point they're not going to increase payroll. Trying to be realistic here. Best case scenario for Sox fans who want them to go for it is that they virtually stand pat. That would give a shadow of hope for a Wild Card spot at least.
  17. It's getting harder and harder to see how they can re-set and be competitive this year.
  18. Because going over by $39.9 million costs John Henry $30 million more than going over by $20 million? That would be one reason.
  19. But if they're getting lowball offers there's not much sense taking them. Maybe Bloom is asking too much, if the rumor about asking prospects for Price is true.
  20. It's really hard to make a good movie or novel that revolves around sports. The original of The Longest Yard might be the best one, but that also revolved around prison, obviously. The best sports novel ever is North Dallas Forty. The movie was barely adequate, although Nick Nolte was excellent.
  21. Weirdly enough I think Fever Pitch is one of the only baseball movies I've ever truly enjoyed. Bad News Bears was great at the time.
  22. At the moment it feels like they're stymied, like they're just not getting any acceptable offers. Are they really going to wait till spring training and hope another team loses a pitcher to injury so they can trade them Price?
  23. Posts like this are worse than no posts at all. Note: when you say 'probably', adding 'or not' is redundant.
  24. I think it's logical for Sox fans to go back to 2002, because that's when Henry bought the team and turned us around. And it's all been in the era of big money. That said I certainly don't overlook the Yanks long history of dominance.
