  1. I'd try just about anything for 2020.
  2. Oh yeah - my signature line means a lot to me.
  3. It's fun to gloat about Ellsbury, but I'm not sure we would want to see a head to head comparison between the Sox & Yankees on which team has flushed the most money down the toilet over the last 10 years or so.
  4. Because the law of averages suggests that he might stay healthy enough this year to show if he's actually good at baseball...
  5. Because this way creates more interest and debate and all that - the entertainment factor.
  6. They both matter, really.
  7. Schilling should be a slam dunk IMO. If 80.5 WAR and an awesome postseason resume doesn't get you in, that's f***ed up.
  8. Jack Morris is a perfect example of what people mean when they say it's not supposed to be the Hall of the Very Good.
  9. I honestly don't think Jack Morris should be in the Hall, and yes, my starting point for that statement is his career WAR. Morris's career bWAR is 43.5. Schilling's is 80.5. Hello?
  10. The WAR component additions and subtractions on Baseball-Reference (B-R) are actually pretty easy to decipher. There is a 'positional' adjustment you have to watch for.
  11. More like 2 months. Maybe you're thinking of the great Bobby Jenks...
  12. No, it doesn't guarantee anything. Nothing guarantees anything in this game.
  13. What sort of win range do you consider 'competitive'?
  14. It's going to be extremely interesting to see what they do, that's for sure.
  15. To get under the 208 million mark it appears they have to do at least one of the following: 1) Trade Betts. 2) Trade JD Martinez. 3) Trade Price. The first two are certain to piss off a fair number of fans and signal that the team is not fully committed to contending in 2020. The third will not piss off very many.
  16. They walked it back pretty quickly, though, saying it was a 'goal, but not a mandate'.
  17. Just about everyone said it was an overpay for Kimbrel. I don't think it was said very much about Sale.
  18. In the entertainment world, I guess.
  19. They announced that prices will go up and some will go down depending on the classification of the game. Overall the prices will be 1.7% higher.
  20. The big question for me is how they can possibly get under the 208 million for 2020 and do it without pissing off a lot of fans.
  21. Johnson was a very useful part of the 2018 staff. Unfortunately couldn't repeat in 2019. Hopefully he still has a future in the game.
  22. The Red Sox owners have made piles of money on the increase in the value of the franchise. As far as the profit or loss for 2019, only they really know for sure. We know they had the highest payroll in baseball and paid 13 million + in luxury tax for an 84-78 record. JH's general message seemed to be that he didn't mind spending to that level for a championship team, but for an 84-78 team, not so much. Especially when the Rays spent a fraction and won 96 games.
  23. I don't think the Sale trade was considered a big overpay.
  24. I think history shows that you're more likely to get an overpay by the other team on a deadline trade. Teams with a shot at a title are often willing to give up more than they're getting.
  25. harmony agrees with you. His response was to 5GoldGloves.
