  1. I'll say 10 years and 375 million.
  2. The only point being made was about the likelihood of JD opting out at the end of the year.
  3. @OMFonWEEI @LouMerloni says the #Redsox offered Mookie Betts a 10 years, $300M deal in the 2019 offseason. Mookie countered with 12 years, $420M
  4. This is both convoluted and questionable.
  5. We were very fortunate in 2013. A lot of things had to go right and they did. Like Lackey, for example. But that team isn't really a blueprint for success. Especially when you look at what happened the next year.
  6. If Philly and the Padres can pay $300 million or more for Harper and Machado, someone can definitely pay crazy money for Mookie.
  7. And they got one year out of Victorino for 39 million. And all those guys were useless in 2014. So those 2013 signings aren't really a great example.
  8. I don't think it would necessarily require a sharp decline for him to stay put. Even a modest decline might do it. He'll be 33, and if he doesn't opt out he'll be guaranteed 2 years and 38.75 million. That's really not bad for an aging DH.
  9. It doesn't seem like it should be good news, though.
  10. JD is only a FA after this year if he opts out, of course. That's not a given. And it would impact the interest of other teams.
  11. And if the Sox re-sign him they don't even get the stupid 4th round pick.
  12. If the Red Sox sole purpose this offseason was to get under 208 million, they could have traded Mookie for a couple of middling prospects and been done with it.
  13. Not if Bloom doesn't let them.
  14. I read it, I swear.
  15. Johnson.
  16. Well, they did a fine job bumping up the price for Theo.
  17. So you believe their $135 million offer was a charade?
  18. With Lester, they f***ed up before the season started. Lester seems to have given them a legit shot to sign him, even after being traded. Theo just blew everyone away with his offer.
  19. Why is he a perfect choice?
  20. Apparently there are still some issues with the robo umps. Some pitches they can't determine as strike or ball.
  21. The Astros haven't hired one yet either.
  22. It was kind of obvious though, or at least it would be once you start putting it out there that Betts & Price are available.
  23. I don't get why it's even a possibility.
  24. Every day that goes by without a trade, the mystery of the plan deepens.
