  1. I'm not sure why you think a fire sale is a real possibility.
  2. If the Dodgers are desperate, you'd never know it from this offseason. They've done virtually nothing.
  3. If he's 100% healthy, I could see up to $15 mill * 3.
  4. There's a lot of X factor with Price. But you can say that about an awful lot of pitchers...
  5. Maybe. But it all depends how much of his salary another team would be willing to pay.
  6. What I'm saying is this: he really didn't need the money. You would need to convince me that he needed the money to make me change my mind.
  7. Well, he did have to play another season to get the money.
  8. The Dodgers could want Price if they only had to pay about half his salary. They have lots of room under the tax threshold, and you can't have enough pitching.
  9. jung, the buzz about Mookie being traded has really picked up hard the last few days.
  10. One thing I think we have already learned about Bloom is that the dude is patient.
  11. I'm the opposite. I had reached the point I didn't think any deals were happening. But now I'm fairly sure Mookie is going to be dealt. The rumors have really picked up, and now it seems Arizona might also be in the mix.
  12. I see no reason to think Mookie wants to be traded. But obviously his decision to go to free agency has a lot to do with this.
  13. Tragic. My daughter is really broken up. He was her favorite athlete.
  14. Keep wheelin' and dealin' guys!
  15. I'm a little surprised the Dodgers haven't added a starting pitcher. I know they have some young guys coming. One possibility is that the Sox and Dodgers talked about Price and the Dodgers said they'd like to see him pitch some real games first.
  16. Price, though, carries the baggage of 2 more seasons on his contract after this one. So he'd have to be really dealing, and even then probably only the wealthiest teams would be interested.
  17. To quote Slash again, pitching = parades. I buy that in the limited sense that acquiring a pitcher at the deadline is more likely to be a difference-maker in the postseason.
  18. My guess is that even if the Dodgers get Betts, the Yanks will be WS favorites.
  19. There is no obvious solution. Getting Betts for one year obviously guarantees nothing.
  20. If the estimate of Dempster's net worth that I posted is anywhere near accurate, I don't see how we can say he needed the money that bad. And it's pretty clear he didn't have any lingering desire to play again, because his cleats stayed hung up. 700hitter has talked about how a lot of ballplayers blow their money after they leave the game. I'm sure that happened a lot in the old days, but in the days of big money, how many players who made a lot have done this?
  21. You might actually end up with more reviews that way. At least with manager reviews there's a limit.
  22. Ryan was definitely a freak of nature (as was Williams of course). Ryan just had an incredible body to throw as hard as he did for as many innings as he did and not to break down.
  23. Here's what I think would happen if you took away the teams' right to request any replay reviews. Just about every night and day there would be blown calls that don't get overturned, that impact games, and a large number of fans (think: game threads) would be screaming and cursing about it and wondering why the hell MLB would have done such a stupid thing.
