  1. So once Pomeranz makes his first start, we'll have a clear grasp on how the trade worked out?
  2. No one on this team takes "rigid position of now swinging". That is fan hyperbole. As I pointed out before with the stats for Pedroia and Ortiz when swinging at the first pitch, they pick their spots, and have been very succesful with their current approach.
  3. ^This is on goddamn point.
  4. Farrell has stated several times (remember that game against Seattle last year you criticized the offense on, but Farrell came out and said the pitcher came out and did the opposite of what they expected?) that they have an overall game plan, and they generally stick to it.
  5. Albert Pujols spent his entire prime swinging at the first pitch less than 5% of the time. I'm sure he knows a thing or two about hitting.
  6. Or they pick their spots really well, and that's why they've had success. They are the sure fire HOF and MVP, so let's trust their judgement.
  7. I would supplant him obviously, and rule this place with an iron fist instead of the gentle, loving softness YOTN is known for.
  8. Ortiz has a 1.375 OPS in 36 AB's when swinging at the first pitch. Pedroia has an .864 OPS in 26 AB's when swinging at the first pitch. I'll let them handle their first-pitch AB's by themselves.
  9. Groome and Kopech sure helped ease the sting of losing Espinosa for me. Kopech is an airhead, but goddamn he has ace-level upside.
  10. Keep your piehole shut. He may have given up his address but you f***ed it up. Goddamnit MVP.
  11. There are games where they do swing at the first pitch. The problem is that they have a game plan, and they tend to execute it with consistency and success. Considering their past success against Tanaka (he entered the night with a 4.69 ERA against the Sox) their plan had been working against him. Sometimes you tip your cap to the pitcher and move on.
  12. ....and they ended up needing to patch up 3, 4 and 5.
  13. The Red Sox lead the majors in most offensive categories, but they should change their approach because Tanaka had a hellacious split last night? Are y'all serious?
  14. Not as severely.
  15. I'm not defending Price. I'm calling TW101 out on the fact that 90% of his posts are f***ing whining about something. Price sucked today, and he needs to get his s*** together. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If Price isn't Price this season, we're done.
  16. You're annoying as f*** with your constant whining is what I'm saying. I don't give a s*** about all of that "I loved Lester
  17. Oh, so it's Price you're complaining about tonight. What are the odds.
  18. Josh Beckett spent two weeks on the DL on a yearly basis because of blisters until he was acquired by the Red Sox.
  19. Espinoza COULD be a stud. Pomeranz MIGHT retain his improvement. Such is the beauty of baseball.
  20. Damned if you do, damned if you don't indeed.
  21. People who get paid to scout and evaluate talent for a living think the addition of an above-average cutter and overall mechanical improvements make Pomeranz' breakthrough sustainable. If the scouts know this, so does San Diego and the other 10 teams that were s***ing all over themselves to trade for Pomeranz. They paid "best guy available" price because this kid may have begun fulfilling on the promise that made him a top 5 pick.
  22. Pomeranz' knuckle curve is crazy good, and improving.
  23. Again, I will make a bet right here and now that he eclipses five mill next year. If you want a really accurate tool for arb salaries, wait for mlbtr's arbitration calculator, they rarely fail by more than 200k on players. Also, whether runs and rbi's are a function of team (and they are) is irrelevant because they increase earning power either way. That is indisputable.
  24. If these acronyms keep up, I will murder you all in your sleep.
