  1. Everything is subject to bias all the time, including statistical analysis.
  2. They don't come from affluent families. There are exceptions (usually they move to the US though). But the idea that most of these kids come from slums and horrible living conditions is spot on. In general, that's why they play baseball instead of going to school: So they can find a way out of poverty.
  3. The assumptions are usually correct. Have you seen the state of these "baseball academies" firsthand? I have. They are shitholes.
  4. This is a precursor to other moves.
  5. These kids usually don't even know of the dealings the agents/buscones are doing on their behalf, and I can't for the life of me fathom why any of you would think otherwise. Most of these kids can barely write/read at a third grade level, and they're going to take part in complicated negotiations like these?
  6. I don't create a lot of threads because I can usually find threads to continue relevant topics in. I don't like forum clutter, so why would I contribute to it?
  7. Conforto got sent down a couple weeks ago because he's been terrible this season. Initial success with an inability to adjust is an indicator of lack of maturity as a ballplayer. That's what they need to avoid with Benintendi.
  8. ^Excellent points, both JF and illinois.
  9. Dude definitely played with barbies.
  10. Seattle had the choice, chose Miley. Case closed.
  11. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=confor001mic The downside is having him lose precious development time, and retarding his development. There's absolutely no need to rush Benintendi to the Majors.
  12. I am arguing your opinion, you are arguing factuals. What I've been saying you flip-flopped on is your opinion on the Miley-Buch front. None of us know anything with factual accuracy on trades that did not happen other than what the media speculates. Media speculation was rampant (and MVP posted a link that confirms) that Buchholz was part of the Seattle negotiations. You have been cagey regarding that opinion in the last pages of this thread. So which is it: If Seattle had a choice between Buch and Miley (and there is evidence from Buchholz himself they did) do you think the Mariners rejected Buchholz and chose Miley?
  13. Miley has averaged 198 IP since becoming a full-time starter. Miley offers durability with league-average results (although he's been terrible this year). Buchholz offers either run-prevention ability or some durability every other year. They are not the same pitcher. Not even close.
  14. Your post, in response to Kimmi's point that it was mostly "speculation" that they were choosing between between Miley and Buch, but that the speculation was rampant. Your post, on what the Mariners actually did when confronted with the choice between Miley and Buchholz.
  15. Just media speculation.
  16. In the prior discussion, your POV was that (and you brought evidence) that the Sox had indeed offered up Clay and Miley, but the M's chose Miley. Now, negotiations were widely reported, but the Buch/Miley angle was pure media speculation. Which is it?
  17. Not talking about any sort of indisputable fact. I am saying your opinion has flip-flopped as the discussion has evolved, and it has.
  18. So starting baseball discussion is relegated to creating threads? I am enlightened by this new information.
  19. Cagey: Someone unwilling to commit to a point. AKA, speaking out of both sides of one's mouth.
  20. Not.at.all. Wanna know why? Because I actually actively engage in/create baseball discussion. You just jump in on active discussions to fan the flames when there's conflict. Not quite trollish, but right on the borderline.
  21. Then why the f*** do you keep whining about him? I don't get it. I just don't understand how Buchholz sucking and Price underperforming have to be lumped together in order to create a defense for Buchholz. In the end, the FO woefully underprepared the pitching staff either way, but it's because of Buchholz, not Price.
  22. Also, the point is (and apparently you're really slow if you have not picked it up) that the complaint is exactly about the Red Sox putting themselves into this situation. Most people complaining about Buchholz now were pining for rotation depth in December.
  23. What exactly did I make up? Please enlighten me. Also, can you not make a single point (in a discussion you're not a part of, not less) without coming off like an attack of hemorrhoids on a trip to China?
