Workman signed - http://news.soxprospects.com/2010/08/report-red-sox-sign-2nd-round-pick.html
Coyle signed - http://news.soxprospects.com/2010/08/report-red-sox-sign-3rd-rounder-sean.html
If we could get Matt Kemp for Ellsbury (plus not too much else), that'd really be a trade worth looking into. He's a power right-handed bat that also has speed. I don't know about the status of possible prospects of theirs who would step into the 5th spot next year, but if Lilly leaves Doubront would look awfully interesting to them.
There's no reason to sign Crawford just to keep him from the Yankees. He is better than Ellsbury, but he's not significantly better, and that $18 million would be $18 million that doesn't go towards a power 1B down the road, or addressing the bullpen.
Adam Dunn is an interesting option to play first. His defense there has actually been average or slightly below average, after he finally gets a full offseason to work on one position defensively. The only problem is that he's left handed, and this teams' handedness seems like a major problem down the road. He probably wants a longer contract than we'd like to give him, though.

-Sox are probably likely to pony up the money, and the fact that there have been no negotiations is not unusual - http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2010/08/16/tick-tock-the-latest-on-sox-draft-signings/
According to that article, also looks like Workman may not sign, Coyle might be leaning towards signing, and Cecchini's situation is uncertain until later
Ellsbury is the same type of player as Crawford, and almost as good when healthy, and under club control for 3 years. I don't know why we need Crawford so badly.
I'd like Cliff Lee to come to the Sox, but it isn't happening. This free agent class doesn't seem that great for the Sox. The year after (when Fielder, AGon, and Pujols are all free agents) is the one to wait for.
Interestingly a lot of sports writers thought the Cy Young race was basically down to Lee and Price in the AL, with Lee the favorite. While Lee is probably the best pitcher out of the AL, why is Lester only mentioned as a dark horse candidate? I feel like Lester has pitched just as well, if not better, than Price this season, even if you just take the W-L, Ks, walks, and ERA.
Theo isn't the manager. The commentators talked about the depleted bench, but I don't know who was avaliable to run. I don't know Lowrie's avaliability for this game.
EDIT: If Lowrie isn't avaliable, the only person avaliable to run is Darnell McDonald. I guess that Terry was worried about the possibility of extras with no one on his bench? Although in that situation, I think I still would've pinch-run for Lowell, personally.
Actually, I personally would have been really happy to give up Casey Kelly for Downs. Theo's such an idiot, why the hell wouldn't he give up a top-5 prospect for a 34-year-old lefty reliever.
The Pirates are ahead of both the Marlins and the Rays in attendance percentage this season, and I've been to Pirates games this season, and the seats are usually less than half-filled. And the Pirates suck.
Winning doesn't necessarily correlate with attendance, but it doesn't hurt.

At least it's Lester on the hill tonight. Think Francona's really angry at Lowrie for botching that ground ball last night?
So I briefly took a look at the Yankees-Royals game on MLB Gameday, and saw the following:
"With Brett Gardner batting, Alex Rodriguez steals (4) 3rd base. Jorge Posada steals (2) 2nd base."
What the f*** Jason Kendall.
