  1. Yeah, I was being sarcastic. This team is onpace to win 90 games with Beckett, Lackey, and Paps having career worst seasons and the injuries to almost everyone. I never thought Lackey was particularly good, but it's not inconceivable that the sox could have reached 100 wins if healthy and having normal seasons (not likely, but possible). I don't think there's anyone on the FA market that would make the Sox definite favorite over the Yankees, but I also don't think there are a lot of moves outside trades worth making. DiceK is fine as a 5th started - overpaid, but not much you can do about it now.
  2. Would having Doubront spend 2 years in AAA hurt him in the long-run? If it does, one of Doubront or Matsuzaka will either be gone or in the bullpen soon, and I'm not sure either would like pitching out of the bullpen (though, of course, neither can really do anything about it). In 2 years, Kelly or another one of the Sox's arms would probably have panned out as well. It seems like if the Sox could get a good return on Doubront, it might be worth taking that deal (Doubront for Rasmus?)
  3. I think the Red Sox should sign Cliff Lee, then we can probably palm off Doubront and Dice-K for Felix Hernandez, since it's like two decent young pitchers for a really good one. Then we should just like cut Beckett and Lackey, and trade Ellsbury for Wainwright since Ellsbury will be cheap and the Cardinals will need money to sign Pujols, and Wainwright will be really expensive in the future. Then we would have a rotation of Wainwright, Lee, Hernandez, Lester, and Buchholz. Then we could eat some of J.D. Drew's salary and trade him for like Dominic Brown since Drew is a proven decent player and Brown could be a huge bust. If I'm the Phillies GM, if I think that I want J.D. Drew to help me win this year, you know what? I'm one of those guys, I make that deal. Then we'll have money to sign Werth, Crawford, Downs, and Soriano. I think this would be an okay team.
  4. He had a freak injury that shouldn't be a long-term concern, but yeah I guess his trade value has fallen. The difference is that the Cardinals might be looking to move Rasmus, while the Sox aren't looking to move Ellsbury.
  5. Rasmus is getting his trade value nuked right now. I don't think the Cardinals could even get Ellsbury for Rasmus.
  6. Colby Rasmus may be gone this offseason, but it depends on the price. If the Sox could swap Reddick and Bowden, or a similar package, for Rasmus, it would make this offseason a lot less complicated. Projecting for a post-Drew OF (assuming Kalish turns into an everyday major league player), the Sox would have three people that could play at least average defense in center (and likely be very good corner outfielders). The only disadvantage is that Rasmus is left-handed and is terrible against lefties (.593 OPS career, .833 against righties). Given that the Sox have struggled to field anything resembling a major league lineup against lefties this season, I think they'd try to stay away from an Kalish-Ells-Rasmus OF if possible (although it's possible they would entertain a Kalish-Rasmus swap? Or maybe they could palm off Drew and eat some salary because La Russa would love his approach?)
  7. Why not take a chance on him? He still has velocity, though I don't know the status of his shoulder (but if he even pitches once every two days throwing better than delcarmen, I would feel like it's an improvement).
  8. Look at the slider: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/429194/ChapmanSL2.gif
  9. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ar14sN4GBwLhRUGrarzj0SkRvLYF?slug=sh-priorcomeback090110 He was utterly dominant a few years back. I hope that the Sox would take a flier on him and see how he does.
  10. Buch beats out Cahill, IMO; I don't think that Cahill will even reach the top 3. Beltre could be in the discussion for MVP, but I think that's all he'll get (i.e. he won't be in the top 3). Also, Neftali Feliz is a closer, which might put his value higher than Bard's.
  11. s*** sucks. This season's barely flickering now. We might have a better shot at catching up with the Yankees than we do the Rays.
  12. At least Rays fans are better than the newly minted Heat fans. Unless they're both Rays and Heat fans.
  13. If they weren't in the AL East, I'd feel sorry for them more than anything after their FO puts together a terrific team that wins games, and no one ever cares enough to attend the f***ing games, meaning that their success will probably end up being ephemeral. But they're in the AL East, so they should GTFO next year and let us take care of the Yankees.
  14. Perhaps the fans could switch to vuvuzelas. It could be a Florida thing.
  15. Logjam in numbers for our OF prospects, similar skillsets means that it's not as beneficial to have them both since one will not be at the top of the order (since neither would be best batting 3rd, and batting two lefties in a row isn't a good idea). Unless the Sox were to have good hitters in the bottom of the order as well, the LF spot would be better filled by a power hitter IMO.
  16. I'm old enough to remember the days of Carl Everett and Nomar and Pedro, and that's pretty much as early as my memory goes. Having both Ellsbury and Crawford on the team is a bit of a logjam. It would be interesting to have them both, but I don't think Ellsbury would be around for more than a year.
  17. If we sign Crawford, I can't imagine that Ellsbury would stay. They're just too alike as players.
  18. Darnell has a pretty sweet arm.
  19. OH NO NOT MANNY DELCARMEN. NO TITO. WE NEED TO WIN THIS GAME.
