  1. Buchholz isn't in the top 40 in pitches thrown, while both Lackey and Lester are in the top 10. It makes more sense to burden Buchholz a bit more and see if you can preserve the bullpen for Lackey and Lester.
  2. Actually, Abreu makes isn't a bad choice batting leadoff, it's just unusual. Like batting a fast Youkilis leadoff. Still, that Angels lineup is constructed really oddly.
  3. I'm not sure why Abreu isn't hitting 3rd either. Or why Napoli is so low.
  4. His pitch count isn't terrible yet. At this point, I think we'd hope for 6 and a third, maybe two thirds. It's also possible that Doubront comes in for the 7th. At least he isn't named Manny Delcarmen.
  5. I think the Sox could get at least two more innings out of Buchholz. That should hopefully take us far enough that Tito can't even think about using MDC.
  6. Ellsbury's stats are almost as good as Crawford's, and Crawford is not exactly an "average" LF. I think Kalish has 20-25 HR potential, which isn't bad given that he also has speed and hit well.
  7. Kalish has power potential. And just because they would have better value at CF doesn't mean that Theo wouldn't get value if Kalish stays at LF. Think about it this way - just because Youkilis has more value at third than he does at first, doesn't mean that Beltre was unsignable.
  8. Doesn't mean they can't have them both.
  9. Next year seems like a make-or-break year for Reddick.
  10. RYAN KALISHHHHHHHHHHH
  11. Buchholz seems to have difficulty controlling his fastball when he throws at 96, 97 MPH.
  12. Oops wrong window, lol.
  13. Buchholz seems to have some difficulty controlling his fastball when he reaches back at 96, 97 MPH.
  14. Gotta throw those first two years out for Werth. He had a total of 104 PA.
  15. I think A-Rod's suffering through more than a slump. His numbers have been consistently poor this year. Berkman might still be feeling his injury.
  16. Boy, Darnell really got under that one.
  17. Think A-Rod's suffering through more than just a slump.
  18. Holyyy shiitt. Robbed.
  19. I think Kalish is ready next year. He already looks good playing defense, is patient at the plate, and (in limited attempts that I've seen) is also good on the basepaths. I'm not sure he has a lot left to learn in the minors. He might be able to get better at reading nasty breaking pitches, but I don't know how far AAA pitchers can help him grow in that area. If Cameron or Drew aren't offloaded, then Kalish would certainly be avaliable to start the games they miss. If one is offloaded, and we still have one injury-prone player, there's always Nava or McDonald (who aren't terrible in spot duty).
  20. It would've been just Ellsbury if not for a freak injury. And next year, I think it'll be just Kalish.
  21. He might give the Sox a discount, but that's pretty drastic. Most teams will pay him like a catcher.
  22. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/08/red_sox_start_d.html That article says that a deal with Ranaudo is close to being finalized.
  23. V-Mart played 33 at C and 23 at 1B last year. The reason he and Youk didn't switch around this year was because there was no real need up until Youk's injury - Beltre had 3B down, and we needed Youk's bat in the lineup. Historically, I think Francona has no problem with shifting players around if he needs to in order to get the best lineup on the field.
  24. Really? He seems very willing to shift players around, especially the ones that would be relevant to acquiring Napoli - VMart and Youk (though Youk not so much this year, mostly since Beltre doesn't need time off).
