  1. Yeah, did you see his first AB? He looked pretty clueless until he got fed a pitch down the middle. Not that I mind seeing Hall on occasion, but he's received a lot more playing time at second than he should, given how well Lowrie's been hitting/fielding. Also, HR/FB rate in 2006: 19.4%. HR/FB rate in 2010: 18.1%. Career mark: 13.4%...seeing a trend here?
  2. I do wish his strikeout rate would go up and walk rate would go down. I've heard a lot of people say that he's not throwing his out pitches in two-strike counts, which would help towards that; I haven't watched Buchholz enough to confirm/deny that, but if that were true his peripherals (which are not good) could, at some point, support his ERA. In his first 100 or so innings with the Sox, Buchholz had a K/9 rate of about 8.5, 8.6. The next 200 innings, his rate is about 6.5 or so. He's been adding velocity through the years, but now throws his slider more and more while really dropping down his curveballs (8% this year, 15% and 21% in 07 and 08) and his changeups as well, although to a lesser degree.
  3. Oh really? I missed that lol. Lowrie is not a great option when he's a consistent injury risk. With 13 position players, 8 are starters, one's an extra catcher, two are extra outfielders, leaving two infield spots, which means there would be a spot for Hall as an infield backup. IMO outfield depth is not the problem, given we have three starters (if none are moved), and adequate call up options in Nava, Reddick, and Kalish (if none of the starters are moved).
  4. Salty's in the game. Looks fine throwing back to the mound
  5. He also hasn't been a pitcher. His numbers are good, but he's been the beneficiary of a high FB/HR rate (about as high as his 35 HR season with the Brewers). He's a fine backup, but shouldn't be paid any more than that. Also, is he a free agent after this season? Cot's Baseball Contracts says he has a $0.5M club option for 2011.
  6. Think it's probably the gun in Toronto.
  7. Texas is up 1-0 against the Yankees, bottom of the second.
  8. Power surge tonight.
  9. Wow, Bill Hall's putting on a show today.
  10. Boy, that changeup is nasty.
  11. Wow. Buchholz hit 97 on that pitch? No way. This ump's strike zone is really small - for both teams.
  12. Only Bill Hall could look bad in a plate appearance, then jack a home run at the end of it.
  13. Dammit, if Lowell had made that stop and if Buchholz and V-Mart didn't mix up their signs...
  14. Kalish got fooled on changeups on all three of his swing-and-misses. It looked like he was looking for the fastball each time.
  15. It looked like a strike, but I'll take it.
  16. I wonder how long it'll take until Ellsbury's in the top spot. Watching Bill Hall field balls and take hacks against righties is one of the most painful things I've ever seen.
  17. Dammit. That pitch from Papelbon to Snider was actually really good.
  18. Paps up tonight, I think Bard will get the save chance tomorrow (if there is one).
  19. I do wish MDC could throw more low fastballs than high fastballs.
  20. Kalish has looked great this entire year.
  21. Encarnacion on strike three: "Oh no NO!"
  22. The Internet isn't very good at showing sarcasm. That's a pretty nice curveball Doubront has. A little reminiscent of Zito's (back when it was the best in the game).
  23. Dammit. If only Lowrie tagged MacDonald while he was falling off the bag... Let's see how Doubront does under pressure. Only good thing to come out of that situation.
