  1. Cleaned up the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.
  2. THEO EPSTEIN HAVE MY BABIES
  3. Teixeira got 8/180, so 6/130 is about right. I don't know if they'll go to a 7th year. Now the Sox don't look too bad for letting V-Mart go. Barring any major injuries, the team is pretty much set at every spot except catcher for the next 3 years (as in, they'll be guaranteed good production from every slot, assuming Kalish replaces Drew adequately). Edit: Of course, this is assuming the Sox sign Crawford or Werth, which makes too much sense to not do.
  4. That can't be right. Unless like half of those prospects are utter s*** (i.e. not Kelly, Kalish, Iglesias, similar tiered players) this package is really going overboard - no team would even come close to outbidding the Sox. It would be like acquiring Mariano Rivera, for like 30 million a year.
  5. Yankees could be a front runner for Martin, they nearly traded Cervelli for him.
  6. I was a little surprised that Theo would acquire Miller and Buchholz, and then promptly dumped them. Maybe he's looking to bring them back on minor league deals? It's not that the Red Sox gave up anything to acquire them, I was just a little surprised at how quickly they got dropped.
  7. Rivera will resign for 2/30, Red Sox were reportedly offering 3/51. At least Theo's serious about the bullpen.
  8. It's still possible that the Sox acquire A-Gon even if they sign Beltre, and use the DH as a rotating rest option. Especially with both Beltre and Youkilis getting deeper into their 30s. The problem is having to pay extra for that defense. I'd like the Sox to pick up Martin anyway, I don't feel that Varitek is really a viable backup/platoon option.
  9. What is ungats?
  10. I AGREE Also would love to have Bobby Jenks on the Sox. That dude had a .370-ish BABIP and put up a 4 ERA. And he won't cost any picks, there is no relief pitcher on the market I would honestly rather have than him.
  11. Dunn deal is disappointing. For 4 years/$56 mill, I feel like this deal would be a pretty good fit for the Sox. I guess they didn't want to deal with the risk of a DH extended into his 34-35 seasons, but still. People that hit 40 bombs and get on base 40% of the time aren't exactly common.
  12. Everyone starts the bidding a little high. See: 6 years, $150 million for a certain free agent on the market. I think the Philly thing is just something Boras dropped to try to gain some leverage. Amaro's statements made it sound like he was preparing Philly for a 2011 without Werth (no pun intended).
  13. If Russell Martin is perceived as a potential non-tender, I doubt it will even cost Lin. Being labelled unnecessary (and a potential cut) spikes your value down a lot, and the risk of bringing him back for $4 million (which is a lot more than he's worth to the Dodgers) is probably something they wouldn't want to deal with. At most, I think he'd cost a high-upside guy who's struggled in the minors and likely won't pan out.
  14. If Dunn's 2010 defense isn't a fluke, 4/60 is a very good price. Of course, if the Sox are looking to move him to DH after next year, his value takes a big hit. 3/39 would be something that I'd love to see the Sox sign him for, if they have future DH plans.
  15. A friend of a friend suggested that the Red Sox sign Jeter and put him in AAA for the season.
  16. In 2007, Alex Rodriguez was an MVP contender, Derek Jeter was playing quite well, etc etc. Rollins does not have the power or the hitting skills to be much more than an above-average shortstop anymore. Having a .300 OBP doesn't do much for Werth's ability to get RBIs. Utley and Howard do get on base a lot, but it's not like the Sox lack players with OBP capabilities.
  17. I think that GMs overall value draft picks more than they did a few years ago. I don't have any evidence to support this, it's just a feeling I get. Not that it would ultimately change the package for Agon by a huge amount.
  18. I'm not really sure how you can argue Theo is a person that signs too many old players - this is the GM that "cut the cord" with Pedro, Nomar, Manny, Lowe, etc etc... And I don't think you'd find a single GM that hasn't made a big mistake. Ask Sabean how Barry Zito and Aaron Rowand's working out. Theo makes a lot of small mistakes, IMO his only real big mistake was not signing Teixeira (although the Lackey signing could be a clunker).
  19. V-Mart likely gone. Heard he was offered 4 years, $50 mil with the Tigers, and 3 years, $48 by the Sox.
  20. Seems like the new Steinbrenners are more serious about this budget stuff than their father was. Jeter cannot really threaten to leave, since no one else will pay him that amount. It's not particularly relevant how much other players on the Yankees make, the Yankees know it's about how much other teams will pay him.
