  1. But he was fine all season when he got an ERA over 4. No one cried injury BEFORE he went to the playoffs. Therefore I don't discredit his last year post season stats. And if you say it happened after the season ended, well, a 4 ERA is not ace-like.
  2. Actually, I do agree with this. Every interpretation is different.
  3. Sorry, I meant since he's been with us. I don't care what he did for the Reds.
  4. Not exactly. Just about 130 at-bats, I've seen smaller sample sizes.
  5. Well, he's solid.
  6. .OBP and hitting aren't the same thing... Batting average judges hitting.
  7. So it's stupid because it's true?
  8. Well, his small sample size of a .290 BA does not lie. But let's avert away from Gonzo. What about Hardy? How well is he doing? Not good enough for me. Tulo or Hanley are the answer.
  9. Never mind, sorry for double post. I just wanted to say it's not that bad, I'm over-exaggerating. We can still win. Just had to get all my negativity out of my system. I'm done now.
  10. Why? That's all that matters to me. What he does for this team, not any other. And so far he's been great. Small sample size, but not bad at all.
  11. It would have been better if we won the game.
  12. Yet, Gonzo is hitting better than him this season. We know he can hit in Boston, he's shown it well at least this year. But we don't need Gonzo; this isn't about him. This is about getting a BETTER SS, not Gonzo, not Hardy. So to even mention Gonzo in a thread about acquiring Hanley or Tulo doesn't ratify the fact that Hardy is better than either of those two names.
  13. It's going to come back and bite us getting wild card. I just know it. I wish we could have done better and I still think we could have. I partly blame Francona. He never keeps the pitchers in games, he has taken them out and let the bullpen give up runs that they should not have. We have a tired bullpen going into the post season. Beckett has not been the Beckett we need him to be, coincidentely he's only been an ace the one year we won the division. CC Sabathia overall is a better pitcher than Beckett in his career. And don't tell me Beckett is sensational in the playoffs. He's been there only three years, and he had TWO good years. Last year he failed and we only heard of a so-called "injury" after we lost the series. But going into it and all year when he posted an ERA over 4 he was fine. He is NOT the pitcher we think he is. Good yes, but Sabthia is better. When it gets down to game 7 at Yankee Stadium (if we even get by the Yanks to begin with) and it goes into extra innings, I don't see us winning it. If we were at Fenway, it would be a different story. Alright, go and shell me. I posted this all just because I'm mad we couldn't beat the Yankees ONE GAME THIS SERIES. We still have a chance to win the WS, but it just does not seem easily possible. We were down a Curt Schilling last year...
  14. I used .OBP too. Hardy's was never that high. His highest is .343 and his career is in the low .300s.
  15. I know, that's a great thing. But still... The way I look at this, the Yanks won the series. When we played them early on (3 or 4 games) when they didn't have A-Rod. Now they do and they crushed us. They are a different team without A-Rod (just like the Dodgers w/out Manny last year). They will be harder to beat with him. Besides, we have not clinched yet. This was just a classic act of Francona throwing the series so the Yankees can win. Why is Byrd even still on this team? I'd rather start Bowden.
  16. JJ Hardy only hit 25 homeruns twice in his career (if you count 24 in 08 and 26 in 07). This year he's been horrible, a batting average LESS than A-Gon. And for those of you .OBP guys, his .OBP hasn't been that high anytime in his career. His highest is .343 in 2008. As for Stephen Drew, the guy really isn't a good hitter and likewise has not had a high .OBP. But believe it or not, his career .OBP is higher than JJ Hardy's. Bottom line is JJ Hardy is not the answer. He's not even that good. His questionable season this year and low .OBP can tell you that. We need to get Tulo or Hanley. Or even resign Cabrera or Gonzo (at least he can field great and he's hit the ball well with us). But Tulo or Hanley are the best options.
  17. I didn't even see this game. I thought it was on at 8. But I knew the Sox would lose. Icing on the cake for the playoffs for the Yanks; bad news for the Sox. Horrible game going into the playoffs when we have to play the Yanks. There's no way we can beat them if we play like this.
  18. Basically, I think it's going to an offensive slug fest that the Yanks will win. If you think Byrd is even mediocre, think again. He's had one good start. After that, he's been horrible. The only reason he's here is to rest our pitchers' arms, and he can't even do that if he only goes 5 innings giving up 8 runs or so.
  19. I'm fine with either to be honest. I think we should get either Bay or Holliday again. Bay is one of those guys you have to look at OBP for. His average is a mere .267 but his .OBP is strangely off the charts and he's hit a lot of homeruns. So getting him back would not be bad... If we could get both him and Holliday, I would love it.
  20. Byrd will get pelted. Pettite won't be much better, but the keyword here is that he will be better and he will win. Yankees tie season series. We lose season series because we rested too many guys last game.
  21. There's always Hanley Ramirez!
  22. Drew usually only hits when we are very far ahead or very far behind, making his presence useless. It's not really his fault, but unfortunately, that's what happens more than occasionally. But I'd rather him than Baldelli, because you just never know, maybe he will actually hit with runners in scoring position for once. A .290 average with the Red Sox and a .151 average with the Red Sox are practically the same thing?
