  1. You can scratch Mike Lowell off your list, because I don't think he'll be playing much. Last year, Beltre hot 8 homeruns (8)! I'm looking for guys who hit 40 homeruns like Ryan Howard, Teixeira, and A-Rod, or just guys who can run the other team down. Besides Ellsbury, we have neither of these. David Ortiz is done. Martinez is a run producer, I agree, I forgot about him. But you got Youkilis, Pedroia, and Martinez all together in the lineup and the only run producers. I read 2/3 of the book. Would've finished it if I didn't lose it on vacation. I never lose anything either. It's fate I tell you! Like I said, if I finished it, I would still probably not agree with it. it's a fun read, but Beane has never won a championship...
  2. I haven't read the WHOLE book. But I've read most of it. And I don't agree with all of it. The Phillies and Yankees didn't only base their teams on OBP guys (like the Red Sox). They had guys who could hit for power. The Red Sox did too in 2007, and especially in 2004. But now the Red Sox have no power to bring home the OBP guys. You need a bit of everything. The Red Sox have no run producers, they onlty have the guys who get on base. And like I said, Billy Beane's magic never helped his own team get too far. One guy Theo loves- JD Drew. He's one of the worst hitters on this team. Can't hitr in a timely manner and generally gets on base, but no one will get him home because they can't hit, just get on base. They will come up empty eventually. "Moneyball" is overrated. There are some great aspects to it (like paying less for decent players), but if you just really on OBP (and I mean JUST) you will come up empty. The Yankees and Phils did not JUST rely on OBP, and neither did the 04 and 07 Red Sox. Theo is changing this team for the worse. He's getting guys who can get on base, but can't hit guys home. We'll see the negative effects this year, unless he picks up a run producer somewhere.
  3. Let's sign Kieth Foulke again...
  4. Thanks, I appreciate it. I completely agree with Dipre on Vazquez. I can't wait until Yankee fans see him fail. They should have kept Melky Cabrera.
  5. Ironic how he isn't our #1 starter either. Sabathia pitched more innings. By ace I mean someone who pitches a lot of innings (there are very few in baseball at the moment). An ace is Roy Halladay, the best pitcher in baseball (who Theo did not get).
  6. I read most of Moneyball, but not the whole thing (somehow I lost the book). It must be fate, because that book does not correlate with my theories. I didn't agree with most of it (but it was a fun read). Ever seen Billy Beane lead his team to the World Series with this "Moneyball" OBP theory? Yeah, I thought so. The Yankees won so many years because they not only have OBP, they have guys who can hack and hit with power. But in the end, it all comes down to pitching. OBP is clear representation of getting on base, but not for scoring runs.
  7. Close, in a couple years he should be. Still has to work on his walks.
  8. I'm admitting to being an idiot on this website. but sometimes idiots are correct in their explanation of baseball.
  9. I agree that I think Vazquez won't be that great.
  10. I never said V-Mart was bad. I like him, a lot. I just don't see him as the only offensive player. Actually, I forgot about him. He as well as Pedroia and Youkilis can't get it done alone. And if you go by your theory, Cameron is replacing the once healthy Manny and Bay... pitiful...
  11. David Ortiz used to be my favorite until he started making outs and not hitting.
  12. This I agree, but it's worth a try. I am really upset about Scutaro. It'll be Lugo all over again.
  13. I pity Lowrie. He always looks like he'll make a breakthrough and then he gets injured again and gets setback. I also would not have minded Tulowitzski here either. But the point is, I'd rather have Gonzo over Scutaro. Gonzo would have been a better hitter than Scutaro will be IN A SOX UNIFORM.
  14. Dustin Pedoria, then it would be Youkilis. The only two batters who truly know how to hit on this team. Mike Lowell would be mixed in if he were healthy and not so old.
  15. One World Series. And JD Drew was not the reason. In fact, his 2007 season is his worse. Curt Schilling and Beckett's one ace-like year is what won us a World Series.
  16. Until we find out he's using performance enhancing drugs. And say what you want, but Scutaro will fail offesnively. Defensively he'll be ok, but on offense, he'll be the second Lugo. Mark my word.
  17. Where is the # of pitches thrown and walks please? I bet Sabathia's is lower. We all know Schilling barely walked guys, that's why he's successful. I hate it when pitchers throw too many walks. It's a sign of weakness.
  18. Hitting doesn't necessairly generate runs (to answer question 3). Also runs can be scored inconsistently (which the Red Sox do). They score 18 in one night, the next 3 days they score a total of 3 runs (an example, but this is what happens). In fact, this whole team is inconsistent. This is what OBP teams do. look at the Yankees- they're hackers. No problems there. And the Rays- they run us down dry- the right way to play the game. When you rely on garbage OBP stats to earn runs, you're desperate. Hacking and running is so much better. This team can barely hack and can barely run. Obviously you need to get on base, but you don't need a whole lineup of guys who can ONLY get on base. You need runners and hackers. We don't have very many top hackers and only one runner (Ells). If I built a team I'd hack and run, run down the other teams dry, make them weak. The Sox can't do this. I LOL'd when Varitek came up a year ago with bases loaded and no outs... pitiful. Didn't score a run, and it was against the Yankees. The offense on this team was pathetic last year and it's even worse this year.
  19. You know what's funny? The ast baseball forum I was at, the people got so mad at my negativity and stupidness and started swearing at me. I spammed them all and got banned five times. And I don't care what stats are thrown at me; JD Drew has harmed this team since day 1. He is horrible. Hermida is still young, I bet he can still get better as a player.
