  1. SMALL SAMPLE SIZE!
  2. Angels win in 4, then beat the Yanks and win the WS. It's their year (finally).
  3. Since when did a 4.03 ERA (or whatever it is) make him "the best pitcher in baseball"? By this logic, Wakefield could have been the best pitcher after one week if he pitched a shut out.
  4. JD Drew usually only gets a big hit when we're far ahead in runs or losing miserably. That is why he gets bashed.
  5. aka Josh Beckett I don't know what to expect. I depend on season stats to rate players and Josh Beckett was not so great this year (he was ok). Last year he was horrible in the playoffs and he had a higher ERA than the two years he was great. We always get this assumption that he's injured. We can never tell because he doesn't say anything. I can see a repeat of 2008 happening, I hope it doesn't, but whether he is injured or not is uncertain. If he's ok enough to pitch, then the blame goes to Beclkett if he pitches bad, at least IMO. He is no more a "great postseason" pitcher than he is "regular season" pitcher. Just like A-Rod and Sabathia being "worse" in the postseason. You can't just make that assumption (just like the Angels always losing). It's a new year and anything can happen. We saw last a year that "the boy who cried injury" was no good in the postseason and he was ok enough to pitch through it.
  6. It really does make me wonder whether baseball is legit in that aspect... guess we won't even tell after tonight. The Tigers lose, no way. The Twins lose, there's speculation, but again nothing to back it up, yet I will dawn on this website.
  7. The Twins and Tigers have a playoff game tonight, but this website has already decided the Tigers as a winner in the standings... http://www.shrpsports.com/mlb/stand/2009finaldiv.htm Why is this?
  8. Why? Byrd just isn't that great of a pitcher... he's a #4 starter, but when you have 4 great starters and Wakefield, I prefer Wake to Byrd.
  9. Probably not, but it's a nice pipe dream.
  10. I don't get what you're saying... are you saying the injury wasn't the reason he failed in the playoffs? If so, you'd be agreeing with me, because that's what I've been saying all along. Or at least he didn't blame the injury, therefore he really did accept failure. But no, I don't have any quotes. But for all we know he could do well this year. We don't know...
  11. I'm sure his ERA is still close to 5. And it's good; but not great unless he goes at least 7. He was due for a good outing to be honest, but his ERA is still high and he is still not that great of a pitcher. He's mediocre at best, which is why he's a #4.
  12. Actually, I'd probably agree too. Ellsbury's steal was great.
  13. True, the stats don't lie, but seriously, can we move on? All I've said is I like what Gonzo has done for this team. It doesn't mean I think he is the best. But to me, he's been great on this team so far. I don't know why that is so hard to accept. Now can we back on topic?
  14. I do too actually, so long as he doesn't become the boy who cries "injury" again. But you're right. I do need to chill. Which is why I said in my rant on the second post that I just had to get it all out. I'm feeling a bit better now.
  15. My point is that a 3.80 ERA isn't ace-like either. Jon Lester is better than this guy (at least he has been the past two years).
  16. Then his 4 ERA can tell you he wasn't an ace. I sensed Ortiz's decline from the start, it was evident after his injuries. Tek was horrible in 07 as well, so that didn't change. And Drew, he's either really good or really bad, and he hits in the most inopportune times. And I have no idea what that baby pic was, but I was laughing at it the whole time (and at the facepalm one). Thanks for making it a hilarious thread!
  17. Exactly! It covers both (I already knew that). But batting average is solely for hitting. That's what we were talking about, hitting the ball, not walks.
  18. I know where you are coming from, but I just can't agree. He's been fine with us, not great, but not bad. Why are we still talking about him though. This is about getting a "future" SS... My point is neither Gonzo nor Hardy have the OBP... Hardy is better in his career, but has been bad this year. But neither will help us down the line. We need someone better. We have the money.
  19. I understand this, and OBP is very important to scoring runs. But it doesn't record hits per at-bats. It records getting on base per at bats. There's a difference.
