  1. I'd be interested to know who options B, C, and D are. I am not of the opinion that JD is THE silver bullet that will magically propel the Sox offense to the stratosphere. However, I am not aware of any other available FA that have the "Big Bat" moniker. I am resolved to watching more of what Kimmi suggests. 162 games need to be played. That is a long season. Yeah, the Yankees appear loaded on paper. So what? I would have loved to have seen Stanton in a Sox uni but that ship never sailed even close to Boston and I don't see JD as a transformational player.
  2. There is no way Swi would go unclaimed. Not long ago he was a highly regarded prospect. I very much doubt that teams have forgotten this.
  3. That may happen.
  4. Lol! Now see here is where veteran membership at Talksox comes into play. As one of the old guys I can tell you with complete competence that this is where you tell him to stick to cleaning bedpans!
  5. And the dweebs that gather the UZR data are not either?
  6. Boom. Bell has his own answer, I am sure. He has seen Bogey play enough to know that he does not suck and that he is not among the very best SS. f*** defensive metrics if they don't reflect reality and don't even agree with each other.
  7. Do you plan on meeting up with Ted in ST? I think that would be cool. You guys would have a blast talking.
  8. While it is still "early" ( lol ), none of the other three teams in the division appear to have done much to enhance their chances for 1st or 2nd in the division. Tampa looks to have weaken their roster but those pricks have a knack for having what seems an endless stream of talented prospects. So you never know what they can do.
  9. Yep. I have always loved watching him throw and sometimes gun guys down. It's even fun to watch him throw to first. But it seems more of his throws to home have been off-target in 2016 and 2017. Just my "untrained" eyes telling me this. Still, he is a very fun and exciting player to watch out there. WAR, UZR/150, and other metrics aside, he is just fun to watch when he is playing CF. You always get the feeling that he COULD make a good to spectacular play at any time. To me as a fan of baseball that has value.
  10. He is going to go with the team that offers the most total money. The only leverage he has if any team willing to offer to bid against the Sox. OF vs DH is just ********. I think.
  11. And the Sox should start the season with a healthy Betts and Bogey. All is not lost.
  12. All realistic and common sense. I see that you have had your fill of that f***tard phrase "positive regression". Not only is that a f***ing oxymoron, believing in such nonsense to build the squad is about as smart as believing that there "is more than one way to build a rotation". and "five aces". Hopefully some of those guys like Bogey and Betts won't deal with lingering issues. If those guys are healthy, yes, their offensive numbers should be a little better. Counting on an entire squad to perform better than this past year without an upgrade in talent is very dumb.
  13. Yeah players, managers and coaches should be able to do a batter job than the press. They know the game best and see everything up close.
  14. I tend to agree with all of this post.
  15. I know I am in the minority here but I have positive feelings about Velazquez. I think he has the most polish as a MLB ready starter for the Sox among the dregs of our MiLB teams. Now if he can be extended to more than 5 1/3 innings we could really have something good.
  16. Don't ask me. I'm against huge money long duration contracts for free agents. Although I do acknowledge that sometimes the team is in a bind a must make such a move. To me the key will be when Pablow and The Sloth are off the books. And then eventually Rusney to a lesser extent. The key is to make wise decisions. I am not so confident in the Sox current FO to do so. While roster construction is pretty serious stuff, it is not rocket surgery.
  17. And it makes no difference who made these decisions. It was bad business from the start and the Sox are "paying" for their mistake.
  18. Moncada was a second baseman not a short stop as far as I know. Not that it matters. Your point is legit. Sometimes teams make moves that they would prefer not to make. I think so, anyway.
  19. All true. The only way to change some of those minds is for Price to have a Price year. As in a return to his dominant form.
  20. Plus he looks like Doctor Evil.
  21. Which in this case is synonymous with necessary.
  22. It's not up to me to decide how you behave. Do as you see fit. As far as Judge is concerned I think we would all feel pretty good about him if he wore Red Sox. It's just a game.
  23. Cleaned that up for you.
