  1. I have been championing this move for a while now. I'd rather have Steve Kuburski than Sidney Wicks in this case. It makes sense to sign Moreland on the cheap. It's good insurance if DD comes up empty handed in the JD chase. At least the Sox have what they had last year which is still going backwards compared to other teams but hey. You can say what you want about Hosmer being able to get on base more. The Sox just avoided making a big mistake. Although the Yankees signed Swisher for first then swooped down on the Sox and nabbed Texiera The Horseface like they were Siamese twins. Onward.
  2. I thinks so.
  3. Beltre was the best defensive player at his position and was signed for only one year at about $10. mil. Apples and oranges to compare that "chance" with signing Hosmer to a 4,5, or 6 year deal for $100. mil plus.
  4. If he is signed for the expected bloated 5-6 year deal the Sox are making the whole Fatboy mistake again ( in that he is the "big splash free agent" at his position ). . Even if Hosmer remains functional, he likely will not be worth the deal to sign him.
  5. Moon people for some reason are adverse to knucklballers. Wright did some good stuff before returning to second base.
  6. Then again he may hit the s*** out of the ball. You do not know. No one does.
  7. If Nunez is healthy and looks to recover fully without any lingering issues to his knees or legs I say sign the motherf***er up as soon as possible. I would prefer him at 2nd to start the season than my binky Holt or Hernandez. The man "plays offense" and this team could use that.
  8. I understand that. He went out and hired him as soon after the season ended as he could. That tells me that he knows his best chance of getting the biggest, most bloated contract possible is what is important to him. Given that little insight, how are we to believe that Martinez prioritizes winning and even playing the outfield? My guess is he is not going to care about what position he plays as long as he get the biggest payday. And if the Yankees are not going after him his best current shot at this is with the Sox. He knows that. Borass knows that, too.
  9. Of course DD is gambling that the existing market for JD is soft enough that his offer will be the highest and that it will be less than 7/210. If he f***s up and JD signs elsewhere, DD will not find another bat or bats to replace what JD would have brought. We will see lesser players signed and hope that those additions and a rebound from a few people will carry this team. We will see. But maybe not soon.
  10. I agree with all of this. I hope DD is thinking about this.
  11. I have loved watching the guy play for years but I suspect he will never be a regular contributor going forward. If I'm the Sox I am looking to replace him very soon.
  12. I still say he's not a genius. Just a prick. Of course I would hire him.
  13. I can understand this Doc. And I do. All I have tried to say is that if the Sox do not or or not able for some reason to sign a big bat for first base, none of the big ticket options is worth ALL THAT MUCH more than Moreland. I am talking strictly Bang For Buck. Not some projections from some geek.
  14. I see that you have changed your mind or have warmed in some way to the idea of Morrison. Maybe I am wrong in saying that but you seemed more sold on Duda and someone else weeks ago. What's up?
  15. And this translates somehow into a huge advantage in what? WAR? My point is valid. His on-field value is not 3-4 times that of Moreland. Not even 2 times. But if I masturbated looking at stats I may feel differently.
  16. Speaking of staring down Boras. I just saw this on trade rumors: "There is considerable interest in how many years J.D. Martinez will land in his next contract, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe writes. Many in the industry feel Martinez will easily net a five-year deal, though going beyond that for a player who just turned 30 last August could test the comfort zone of several teams, including the Red Sox. (MLBTR, for the record, predicted Martinez for a six-year, $150MM deal.) Scott Boras, Martinez’s agent, set an early asking price of seven years and $210MM for his client, which seems like a very optimistic number now but Boras has a penchant for waiting under deeper in the offseason until he can find his clients an acceptable deal. This has made Boston’s pursuit of Martinez feel like “a staring contest” between Boras and Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, ESPN.com’s Scott Lauber writes, as Dombrowski is traditionally more aggressive in quickly landing his desired targets." So if Borass has set such a ridiculous asking price what should a GM do? I am confident that all these GM guys know about what other GM guys are wanting and capable of doing. If so, just wait it out after telling them a counter. Make sure you say you are in all the way when the price is more reasonable and walk the f*** away with another Bourbon in your hand. f*** Borass. He is no genius. He's just a prick.
  17. Would you say that if DD got Martinez and Moreland? I see that as a gain offensively. Probably not enough to outscore some teams but a move forward, anyway.
  18. I think many of us are surprised that DD has done nothing so far. Disappointed is more like it.
  19. f*** WAR.
  20. I agree. Or me may end up with Hanley or Moreland.
  21. No he is not. He is better at some things which makes him better. But not by enough to justify difference in pay with Moreland. I would not pay any more than 3/45 for Santana and that is an over-pay from where I sit.
  22. And yet some people bitch about Jacko being a Yankee troll.
  23. I would guess that any team is capable of making mistakes. The Sox mistakes are very noticeable because they have been very expensive and they last a while.
  24. It's my understanding from what I have read that not much will change for the Angels while Socia is around.
