  1. Yeah he is not a young version of himself anymore. Just look at his physique. He was lean and fast now he is not really fast ( although he does try to run that way ) and he is built like a tight end, really thick from the knees up. I agree that the Sox need to see what the sloth can do after his surgery. It would be nice to get some bang for 22 million bucks. But I don't see him being what he was or anywhere close to that in anything other than spurts.
  2. If that is the case then JD and Borrass are real dummies. That is an outstanding offer. Believing they will get more than that from any team is delusional. Edit. When I posted this I had mos-read Bells post. I thought he had posted 5/150. 5/110 is still big money.
  3. Yes and yes. Grabbing Stevens and drafting/ signing/ trading has been fun to watch. So many good moves.
  4. I enjoyed this post.
  5. Lol. Butler is the man! Is he still with the Pawsox?
  6. I am glad Danny stood pat at the deadline.
  7. Maybe Lin will be your man.
  8. Hope so. Have fun Buddy.
  9. That trade had the possibility to be a win-win. Unfortunately Miller did not return. I just would like to see a complete and healthy season from E-Rod.
  10. Yeah I just saw the IT trade to LA. The Cavs still have the best player and Love when healthy.
  11. I agree.
  12. Wow. I guess they couldn't move IT. Why do people still think Rose can help? He can't stay on the court.
  13. Hayward needs to come back for next season.
  14. Nice idea but it is unrealistic with the amount of scar tissue on that guy. Stick a fork in him.
  15. No, like many people, a700 saw Buch for what he actually was. Not for someone with great top of the rotation stuff that was bound to be great eventually. Buch was a waste of time and money much of the time.
  16. Yup. We'll see if he is man of principals and strong conviction if he signs elsewhere for less money.
  17. He's dead.
  18. Yeah that is my recollection as well. And like MVP I live here and see almost everything and hear almost everything. He started to get a lot of s*** after the trade to LA and when he just could not say enough bad things about his Boston experience. I loved the signing even though everyone here back then wanted Jason Werth. Overall CC in Boston was a lesson in not all that glitters is gold. f*** him.
  19. Any reporter can get things "wrong". I am not a huge fan of the midget but this sounds plausible to me. Anyway here is the Barstoole take. I agree with Carrabis. https://www.barstoolsports.com/boston/jd-martinez-is-reportedly-fed-up-with-the-red-soxs-inflexibility-and-would-rather-sign-with-another-club
  20. That extension was premature.
  21. Manage his time means time off the field. He can't be of much use from the bench.
  22. I don't know if he will retire by then but my educated guess is that he will not finish the season on the field. Those wheels are f***ed. Each boo-boo adds up and things really start to hurt at his age from what I recall. I say grab Nunez if he is healthy and passes a real physical.
  23. The same could be asked of many supplies like baseballs. My guess is these supplies are ordered in great quantity for the season or a large part of the season. While carrying large inventory can be expensive, maybe clubs have some sort of financial advantage doing things this way. Or maybe no one is paying attention? I doubt that.
  24. "The United States currently has antitrust laws in order to prevent businesses from monopolizing a given market. However, throughout its history, major league baseball has monopolized the baseball market, preventing upstart competitors from ever really getting off the ground. And the Supreme Court has upheld MLB’s right to their monopoly several times. In many ways, major league baseball is the only true monopoly in the United States, and has been since its inception." https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2008/12/3/678134/the-history-of-baseball-s I have not read this essay. However I did wright a paper on the subject while at Cornell in 1973. "The History Of Anti-trust In Baseball". Anyone here can say whatever they want. Facts are facts.
