  1. I bet the Sox are talking 4-5 and 16-18 per.
  2. Nice stroke by Bogarts/ Hope he does not get stranded at third.
  3. Somehow I missed the Sizemore blast!!! I went outside to smoke and bam! Just my luck. Pedroia and Ortiz gave two a ride but not far enough!
  4. I realized what you were saying and I agree. I'm just pointing out that Lester resigning is not an automatic. I see that many people believe that it will definitely happen because he said that he would take a discount to stay. The Sox are not likely to step up and pay the apparent going rate for a pitcher of his ability. Yes, they paid a lot for Beckett and Lackey. I think that those days may be over and that the Sox may want to avoid long term big dollar commitments to pitchers. And if so, I agree with their stance.
  5. I'm not going to defend Jacko's comment. I don't think that he meant to say anything racist. Although, I suppose I could be wrong. There is a cultural difference that not all of us are in tune with and understand. I remember 12 years ago when my Daughter was born. We decided to name her "Sasha". This because her Mother is from Russia ( where the name is somewhat common ). Sasha is the nick name for Alexander and for Alexandra in Russia. But very few Americans are aware of this. Even my Mother questioned naming my Daughter this. I see this naming as similar. And it is a non-issue.
  6. True. But if the Sox don't sign Lester because of a valid concern about his ability to perform up to the contract can it be said that they will be eating that sandwich? I am just saying that I can see Lester moving on. And, I can see him signing with the Sox too.
  7. Well of course Jacko would want the Sox to be "weakened" and for his beloved Skanks to sign him. Most knowledgable fans would feel the same way, right? And yes, he also makes a valid point. I have some difficulty in seeing the Sox signing a pitcher for 5-7 years at over $20. mil per. This is one thing I can admire about the Sox F.O.. It's not a reasonable risk to take. Look at the Dodgers and Kershaw. Who knows?
  8. Lol. I just noticed Mike's post!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!11!!!!! I'm ready to go!
  9. As a veteran of Talksox I will offer that normalcy has returned to life when I see VA's lineup post. All hail the best team in baseball. GO SOX!
  10. I'm not ridiculing you or trying to confront you about JBJ. I just suspect that you are overreacting and reaching a bit Fred. Bradley is very young and has about one full year of experience over single A at this point. His development must continue. No one questions his ability to be a MLB center fielder ( defensively ). Any mention of him possibly being a bust is premature at this point. The Sox appear to have known coming into spring that he still has weaknesses at the plate. That is why they brought Sizemore in for a look see. Pedroia struggled when he came up. Now look at him. Just have patience.
  11. My point ( opinion ) is that Carp has a lot of value to the Sox. That is all.
  12. Defining very valuable is not easy. I can't see how anyone that watched many Sox games last year can fail to see Carp's "value". He hits off the bench. That alone makes him a worthwhile player to have around. He is somewhat versatile, content with his role ( so it appears, anyway ), and he is cheap and "controlled". This is not even worth debating, really.
  13. Not sure where to post this and did not want to start a new thread just to say something. I can't wait for the Sox regular season to start!!!!!! I'm bored to death with spring training. Normally I am not bored because something usually becomes a story. This year has been kind of dull. I even miss Manny showing up late!!!! I look forward to having a game almost everyday ( except those night games from the left coast! ) to watch and/or look forward to. I have been warning my friends that when the season starts that they should not be looking for me to do anything with them when the Sox are on TV. Of course I can think of one or two women friends that I may make an exception for. I'm jonesing for baseball big time and I need a fix soon!
  14. The strength of the Sox last year was overall team depth. Am I wrong? He may not be a glamorous player but Carp is a very good player to have on the bench. I say hold onto him. True, last year could be seen as a small sample size. But Carp can come off the bench and keep the line moving. Many times with power. I also believe that he can be a good replacement for Ortiz if the need arises. JBJ will get his chances soon enough if he earns it by hitting consistently in AAA.
  15. That may be so Ted. But I bet that both of us would like to go to a game there anyway.
  16. Still, MLB is a business. Generally, it is not smart business to go in debt to this extent unless there are tangible assurances that the investment will pay off. As good as Trout me be, I doubt that he will ever return a $400. mil investment. Who knows?
  17. You wins some and you loose some. I'm not upset or surprised that this has happened. Being a first round pick in any sport does not guarantee success. We should all be grateful and encouraged that much of the Sox drafting appears to have been effective.
  18. Was it Miggy that had the problem with booze and spousal abuse a few years ago?
  19. Yeah Nava did look bad in those two instances. The entire team except for Pedroia and Victorino have looked like crap this spring. I know it's just ST but jeez. I want to see baseball. Not Gong show bloopers.
  20. Of course he gambles that he regresses or sustains an injury and has to accept a much lower number. The 6/144 just seams like a lot to turn down to most of us because we never come close to seeing that kind of money. Alas, "Greed is good".
  21. Go Harvard!!!
  22. I've just seen three games on tv. How much slack will this kid be given until another ss will take his place in the starting 9? Just about everyone see him as a can't miss prospect. No one has said much about his actually ability recently. Just a bunch of crap about his poise and maturity. What if he is not ready for a full time diet of major league pitching? He needs to get on base. His ability at short does not justify keeping in the everyday line up unless he does.
  23. Of course if Bogarts does not eclipse the Mendoza line soon this could all change.
